Bored at work again, so another poll is in order.

Completely unscientific - but I am trusting you guys to be honest in your voting. If you've never owned a 360 but "know someone" who has had the RRoD, or assume you'll end up getting it if you did, please don't vote "yes".

Just want to see what the general consensus is here - I'm sure it's been asked before but I'm too lazy to look/care.

I had one fail about year ago - replacement has run fine ever since.

Unless you divide up this poll into "Falcon", "Zephyr", and "Original", the results are going to be misleading.

I bought a refurb from here at AT that was fresh from MS RROD replacement. It RROD in 1 month, transferred warranty to me and sent it out. About a few months later it was giving me disc read errors all the time, even on brand new discs. I bought another RROD fixed one from here at AT because I just new my first one was gonna RROD again. I was one day playing with my first one with the disc issue when it locked up on me. I was pissed so I smaked the crap out of it on its side. No more disc read errors. Guess the smackdown fixed it. Anyway, my second one is at my GFs house so I can play there when I stay over and my original one is working just fine. (knocks wood).

Bought an Elite falcon that rrod in under 2 hours. Replacement hasn't had a single freeze or any other problem.

Got mine almost 2 years ago. No RROD, but the DVD drive constantly sticks (won't eject) & games rarely freeze or go into some hardcore shutter effect. My guess, is that these are all preliminary symptoms of RROD. If it's going to go bad via RROD, hopefully it will before the 3 years are up.

My elite has been going strong since the day after Christmas. Of course I haven't used it much. My friend's 360 RROD recently not sure how old it was at least a year or so.

I bought by 360 in February 2007. My XBOX died, but it didn't have the RRoD, so I voted "no". They still fixed it for me though

Bought one, played it for 3 months and sold it before it can tell me to go fuck myself w/ the RRoD. I will not buy a MS console again.

I can't even understand how the 360 could have so many failures. It is basically a small computer in a box, right? Well, my computers for the last 10 years have never had any failures like that...so why does the xbox?

High performance parts w/ insufficient cooling in cramped space equals fail. GPUs don't have thermal throttling feature built-in like CPUs. Your 10 year old computer's CPU and GPU thermal output is like ice cubes compared to nuclear reactors in the Xbox 360.

Not true - the poll is with regard to anyone who has ever had a 360 and includes time frames. There is no reason to include model type, because the OP doesn't care about which models are more consistent. He wants to know how many people have had a 360 fail. This poll will tell him that.

The poll isn't scientific, but it's not misleading.

Your PC is also a lot bigger and heavier. Lot more room for airflow and heatsinks. I think they make PC heatsinks that weigh more than the 360.

They rushed it out to beat the PS3 to market. So inadequate quality testing. They probably expected some problems, but underestimated how bad it would be.

It is funny, even though I'm awaiting the empty box to send mine back, I'd still choose the 360 again because when it works, it is excellent. I'd still much rather have it and Microsoft's online system at this point. That'll probably change when Sony decides to get their shit together.

Okay. Well that makes sense. However, how the hell can you overlook the cooling like that? It's not like it's a lot of money to get decent cooling in your computer...why not do the same for the freaking xbox.

Is it possible to open your xbox and mod some additional cooling in there?

My first one (bought release week) died about about 1.5 or 2 years. My second lasted 6 months. After that, i went out and bought an Xbox360 Arcade and managed to score the 175W power supply Falcon model. So when the other one gets back from warranty repair I guess it will go in the guest room or something. Seems like the selling price these days is about $125 for a bare console and that is hardly worth it.

Sure, if you want to violate your warranty. But since they're covering RRoDs for "three years" (I strongly suspect this means "close to forever" in practice), you'd be screwing yourself if your mod didn't work.
