360's in Low Stock

I've noticed a number of sites (amazon, frys, etc...) that show stock info all seem to have 360's in low stock sell off mode. The 250gb model on amazon has even gone up in price $30 over the last few days.

There must be some bundles in the pipeline for the holiday.

My old gen 1 360 died last week. And I am looking for a slim but have that feeling that the 250gb models are about to have a bundle update. Doing all I can to not replace quite yet...

I have 2 gen1s that are still going strong. Never had a problem with them...if you don't count the 7 times they RROD collectively. See if you can hold off OP there might be some good bundles coming out. The slim mode has much better cooling than the old ones.

Yea mine was an E74 error and I tied it down to the HDMI. I may try the flip over and stand on it thing this weekend but for $300 it is hard to not just go buy a new one.

(wish I hadn't bought a kinnect a few months ago though)

This might be the best time to sell mine.
Haven't touched mine in months.

Yeah whenever the next one comes out, the current 360s will be basically free.

I have a 360 that was given to me, but I think I've had it on for maybe 20 minutes or less in total, and haven't turned it on since 2010. Only reason I'm keeping it is that I may pick up the Forza games at some point. If it weren't for that I'd have already trashed it or sold it.

Could be new models/bundles, but it's too early for something related to the Christmas shopping season.

I read somewhere that Sony is not going to shrink the PS3 down to 32 nm; maybe MS will shrink the 360.

I'm holding onto mine (first model with HDMI) which I bought after the video connection burned out on my first (day one release model). Halo 4 is probably the last game I will buy for it. After that I'll trade it in toward the next one with whatever deal is going on (there's always a special deal if you trade your old system toward the new one).

The current consoles will be on the market a long time even after the next gen comes out. I'd not hesitate to pick up a bundle you'd use.

I just snicker that complete in box NES/SNES systems are worth more than 360s and PS3s... current gen is just so cheap and forgettable.

My launch-day 360 RRODd earlier this year. I did a towel wrap and even disconnected the fans, both of which just gave me about a couple hours of usage. Every time I turned it off, it would RROD after it cooled back down.

I scratched a couple of surface traces pulling the clips off, so now it's completely dead.

Errr...maybe because NES/SNES systems aren't made anymore? Would you mind telling me if you're a rocket scientist or not?

People are crazy to buy a NES today when you can get all the games off of the Wii console.

Anyway back to original post:

Fry's this weekend had 4gb 360's on sale for $20 less than everywhere else & they had the Racing Bundle on sale for $50 off. I price matched @ Target and got another $15 off with my Target Red Card.

Anyway seems like more evidence that they are being cleared out for new bundles.

I think he means that a 30 year old nes, or a 20 year old snes, still works just fine, while people have to keep replacing their much newer Xbox 360s.

I think making a system that never breaks is expensive. Also, a system that never breaks could reduce revenue because instead of everybody buying it once and that's it, you have a bunch of people buying the same system two or more times. On the other hand, selling crappy systems that break seems counterintuitive to building brand loyalty, but I think the major consoles have such good marketing that the consoles could break even more frequently than they already do and still generate an insane profit.

i like the idea of cheap xbox360's as media extenders, but in reality theyre kinda terrible for that as youll run up your power bill :/

the old consoles had chips in them that were designed to run without active cooling. thats a huge difference. we all know anything thats actively cooled doesnt have the same lifespan generally.

they could have toned down the output, make the graphics look worse and went passive... but who would want that

No shit. There is no comparison between retro consoles and current consoles which were, at release, powerful PCs jammed into tiny boxes. A console like the NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. have no moving parts to break and the heat generated is negligible.

the circuitry of older consoles weakens over time and they probably use shitty fans in current consoles or theyre not running at their stock voltage. It wouldnt cost that much more to use arctic cooling mx 2 than the crap they use. They probably use a huge glob or two of sh***y TIM when they could spend about the same amount of money by using the best TIM and applying it correctly. The original Xbox was the most powerful of its generation and it had fewer issues than the other less powerful consoles of its generation except maybe the GameCube. The Saturn was roughly as powerful as the playstation and at least the earlier models of the former werent all defective like the first year or so of the latter's production runs.
