3700 san diego problems!?

I have a 3700 san diego, and an MSI k8n 4 platinum. 1.5gb corsair xms pc3200 ram. Bios 1.7.

I am having to raise my cpu voltage to get moderate overclocks. Ive been able to go to 230x11, 5ht, 180 ram multi. But this requires 1.54 volts. Temp is 45 load 36 idle.

I can do 225, 5ht, 200 ram multi at the same voltage. The most i can get without raising voltage is 210x11. So I know my ram is fine up to 225.

I have seen several reviews and posts of 245 x 11 without a voltage increase on stock cooling. Even when i lower the HT to 4 i cant get past 230fsb x 11.

Id be happy at 2.6ghz but would love 2.8. Any ideas?

Also whats the max safest load temp you would run this core at?

first off i would lower your ht to x3 so it's not an issue. you should always try to keep you htt under 1000. i have my 3700 sandy running at 255x11 2805mhz for testing right now. have it at 1.63v but the temps are at about 48c under load.

Well you should 1st determine your max motherboard HTT. Set the memory to 100 and HT to 3, and loose timings (3-3-3-10). Set the CPU multiplier to 6 and rase the HTT till you cannot boot. Lower the HTT by 5 Mhz and that is your boards max HTT.

Next determine you max CPU speed. Set the memory to 100 and HT to 3, and loose timings (3-3-3-10), Set the multiplier to auto and give it 1.5v. Start increasing you HTT toward your max motherboard HTT you determined earlier until prime95 starts failing. Lower the speed by 5 Mhz and run Prime95 again (it should be stable for 12+ hrs) that is your max CPU speed.

Finally determine you max memory speed. Give the memory its max rated volts, HT at 3, CPU multiplier to 6 and loose timings. Raise the HTT and raun memtest tests 5 and 6 for atleast 20 passes each to ensure it is stable. When you get memtest errors, that is your max RAM speed.

Actually now no matter how i set it I cant get past 220 fsb. Was able to get 230. I really think its the power supply, its only 20 pin. The MOBO manual said it would be ok woith that but it seems to affect overclcoking.

What are your system specs ?

So you are saying that if you set the memory to 100 and HT to 3, and loose timings (3-3-3-10) and CPU multi to 6 you can't get to 220 FSB ?

Whats the cpu stepping?

Some of them wont OC worth a damn (i.e. not even attain 2.5)

I am haveing the same problem and I have a similar setup. I am very new to overclocking to. I can't even use the MB settings of 11% OCing. I am not sure how or what to do next. any sug. please speak in lamen turms. Thank you,
