I think the z68 should already show all the increased IPC. There may be a bit more power savings with the new chipset and the PCI 3.0 and USB 3.0 native.

The IVB 3770K performance improvement over its Sandy Bridge equivalent is not that impressive (CPU only), until you consider the reduced TDP. This is a good performance / watt improvement.

Love the overclock. 5 GHz at 1.27 volts, wow.

I was hoping for a greater IPC increase. All that tri-gate transistors hype. For non-K CPUs, doesn't really make sense to upgrade over Sandy Bridge. Overclocking potential at 5GHz+ are nice though.

Yeah there seems to be a "bulldozer" effect going on, this is about as far from "official" as you can get but it seems pretty legit.

No reason to start in with the wait for "cpu drivers" "bios updates" "micro code" "Windows Patch" "Registry Hack" ala bulldozer please.

As far as the game tests go, it's clear they're gpu bound...

This is a die shrink, to be expect - lower power, better clocks - IPC increase is a bonus.

Last gen didn't get a IPC increase from 45nm to 32nm.

This gen we're getting an IPC increase, power reduction, higher stock clocks, and presumably at this point better average overclocks. That's a petty good "Tick" for Intel.

^^ Your post makes no sense what so ever. It looks like you are planning to start a flame war.. intentionally.

Maybe it's just you? However in the spirit of clarification for a more peaceful posting experience, exactly what part of my post if not the entire post doesn't not make sense to you?

Agreed. Great post.

Interested in the i5 3470 and the i5 3550. By the way, this looks like it's been updated since the last time I've seen it. So I am posting it again.

Meh, even same clock for clock would work for me. We pretty much "knew" all along it wasn't going to be a massive increase clock for clock, if at all. Coming from an AMD 955, this is going to be great in every way!

So is there an official NDA and if so on what date does it end? I want the anandtech review.

It's faster but we're at a point where almost any reasonably modern CPU is acceptable for most daily use. Wonder when we're gonna get the next killer app that'll really force upgrades.

It is still quite an improvement for a die shrink and their Trigate. The focus has always been the IGP improvement, for those who already have SB, there is nothing to shout about. I'm still getting it for the 5GHz awsm factor.

SB can OC to 4.8ghz usually, whats the big deal?

If you already own a SB setup, why even upgrade. The power saving is less than 20W, not relevant.

When GPUs get a major die shrink, performance sky rockets or power use drops down majorly.. when CPUs get a major die shrink.. Completely "meh".

I logically hear you loud and clear, but part of me is still pursuing that elusive, magical 24/7 5ghz on air...

So...exactly as predicted? A die shrink...

Really .We must be seeing something differantly . The First page shows better than 12% increase in IPC. There is 100mhz differance. But we all know 100 mhz. Won't get but 1-2 %. Would you like to wager.

Not with only 1.272V, I think 1.45V-1.5V is typically necessary for 4.8GHz. IB hitting 5GHz at only 1.272V bodes well for it hitting low/mid 5GHz or maybe even higher if you feed it some more voltage. Assume these IB chips can hit 5.5GHz or so with a safe voltage. Along with the 5-10% IPC increase, in theory it should be 30-35% faster than Sandy Bridge at 4.5GHz. Far from meh IMO.

Not saying it's worth upgrading from Sandy Bridge for most people, though, especially considering a 2500K at 4.5GHz or so is still way more power than most games and other programs need (and probably will need for the next few years at least). But despite being "just a dieshrink" it definitely seems to be a solid improvement over SB, the overclocking potential is pretty exciting, really interested to see how far these chips can go when you really push them. Is 5GHz about the max no matter how much voltage you feed them or do they go much farther? We'll see soon enough I guess.

^^ Yup, IB (if that website can be believed) looks to be a perfect fit for the OC'er if it can hit 5 GHz at that ridiculously low voltage. Shoot, I'm using more stock / auto settings in my BIOS after a wonderful Gigabyte boot loop, and have so far stuck with them as it does seem more stable...my i7-2700k will peak at 1.31v for 3.9 GHz ...

Retirement is eminent for my E6400. I look forward to doubling my clockspeed and cores, as well as tripling my cache for the same price as I paid back in early '07.

For all who didnt jump on the SB train, looks like a great upgrade.

I'm seeing 10% increase in Mediacoder. I'm current running a 2500k at 4.2GHz so if I could get 5GHz that would be another 19% improvement, then add another 10% for HT. I'd be looking at a 39% improvement for encoding/video editing. Definitely glad I waited.

I dont see anything here that suggests I'll be able to go on ebay this summer and pick up a 2500k for $99. I'm still going with my $170 prediction. ugh
