I've noticed a lot of crap going on around here as well, but I agree with Sloth as well as Russ.

My crack rack is small, very small. I have talked to the head comp guys at the place I work but they were not gun-ho on setting up clients..

Some people have to win and some just like to coast along and do what they can, there's no harm in that is there? We all do what we think will help the team some will agree some wont.. just do what you can and let it slide.. please.

Now this pertains to everyone here including me, don't make this place seem like some Election Debate on TV. it's like sitting in the #teenchat room on dalnet.. eewww, just do what you can, that's all that the teams asks but do respect others on the way..

Just my 2Cents.. hey Im cheap, college is expensive..
So.. from the wise words of my girlfriend comes the phrase, "suck it up!"[/i

Sloth,

Just as I told DanC I thought his leaving would be a loss to the team several weeks ago, I will say the same thing to you Sloth(***EDIT*** Added Sloth's name here.). Although I do not approve of a bunch of people's actions here lately, I don't find that I am going to let a personal disagreement between certain people get in between the project and team that I have grwon so fond of.

I would ask you to reconsider your decision to step away from the project. I could ask you to continue to crack blocks and just take a break from the forum, but I'd rather loose your block output than your presence on the forum.

I will not comment on anyone's actions here lately other than to say I remember a time when this was a rarity, not a normal occurance. Look to yourselves people, ask yourselves what have you done to continue this pattern, and how can you help stop it within yourself.

I wasn't question people actions just pointing out that fact that people are diffrent and we have to just face that fact. If the world was a perfect utopia we'd all be boring.

[edit] It would be nice but eventually it would crumble. [/edit]

Paulson,

Wellcky is right. It serves no purpose and adds nothing to the discussion to say that.

I've only been with TA a few months. In these few months I've witnessed the unravelling of this group. I don't know the solution, but I do know that TA is very unlikely to get their act together anytime soon. The differences in opinion are quite large. I wish TA the best of luck, but short of a miracle I really have my doubts.

Tis sad, because there is great potential here.

RC,

You're right. The team has definitely had it's ups and downs, it's differences, and it's tiffs. But, throughout it all, we have continued to grow both in participation numbers, and production. In the end, we will be fine.

It's funny. I only joined TA about four days ago at dennilfloss' request, and it's somewhat silly to see people bickering over what amounts to a tiny little program running on their computer using spare CPU cycles.

Take a step back, breathe and relax a little. Take a walk. Turn OFF the monitor for a little while and perhaps read a book. Is there anything so critical to the well being of the world at large embodied in RC5? Nope. It's a diversion -- treat it as such.

Just my 2 ecu.

This is also my hope, however the DPC is gaining on us at a very real and fast pace. How do we spend the precious time we have? - bickering

The clock is ticking ...

Sloth,

I don't want to see you or anyone else leave the team.
None of us are perfect.
I wondered if I should even respond to this thread because that only brings it back to the top.
I'll stop typing now and see what I can do to help the team.

Sloth,

In any group of people there will be people who you like and people who you don't like.
I know it's hard to not dislike some people, then again; "not disliking" people doesn't mean
you have to like them!

Personal experiences have shown me that forums are NOT the right medium to do something about
this type of problems. If you don't like DanC's behaviour don't post a thread like this.
Other people will be disturbed by yet another fight and will start thinking about quitting RC5 too.

So I think that either you should email Dan personally or you should not bother about it.
In both scenarios I see no reason to quit RC5...

Keep on cracking!

Kind regards,

Mr. Atheist

Disclaimer: This post will not be as peaceful as the ones that were posted earlier.

Russ: Dan's "attitude" is born of the desire to "win". Perhaps that concept is beyond you.
Maybe you should read that sentence again, with in mind all the things you said about the DPC, as well as DanC's attitude and how it comes on to other people.
I find your attitude pretty annoying and I think "you measure with 2 different measures" (that's a dutch saying and I don't know if it's translated right)

As you guys tend to say:
Just my two cents.

Reuben good point.. I know the translations sometimes hinder all of us

in English we have a saying 'men dont have attitudes, thats for women and wannabes'

my life experience has been that when men have 'attitudes' it generaly
comes from feelings of insecurity and fear..

other peoples mileage may vary based on their life experiences...

"Stop whining, start grazing" I love it!!

you guys have a good day and give em hell all the way to the proxy

Sloth: I have to play both sides of the fence here. I have to agree DanC's attitude is painful. He has placed a great deal of energy into this team and most often his efforts have met opposition. He feels justified in his attitude because of it but I can't agree with it nonetheless.

The problem is deeper than that though. Opposition bears the responsibility of explanation and this I fear is a root problem. Just saying you disagree isn't enough. Two other things should occur if you care about your fellow member in the slightest. One is explaining your position. The other is providing alternatives. We seem to way to often get caught up in a flame war or bitter rebuttal than providing any of these things (not everyone mind you).

I don't know how long you have been here but there have been many now in recent history that have just up and quit in the name of self-justification. This just plain 'is sucks'. The history of TA has value to most here even though most do not know what it means. Something held this group together for a long time, a long time before I was here. I submit the question what? What is it all about to you? What values was this team based on? How are problems solved? Why did/do you stay? What do you want your team to represent?

Many factors are responsible for the fallout. I submit to you that past disorganization has lead to attempts to get organized and that many of these attempts contain little knowledge of the true history and shared/common beliefs of TA. Some of you know exactly what I'm saying here. For those of you who are scratching their heads asking "what the heck is he talking about' I am sorry for my lack of a better explanation.

Quitting is cheap. It has no benefit. It lets the history die and also destroys remaining hope from folks that do know what I am talking about. All the members are valuable here. Letting DanC or any other single individual determine your basis is very weak. You folks need to come together and tell everyone what it was and how you want it to be. Your voice is valuable and the members of this team will listen. The members are not here to take it away. Inadvertently it may happen because of lack of understanding but it is not intentional.

Maybe we should re-examine the term 'Family'.
