Guys, he's NOT OVERCLOCKING.
You'd be fine with either processor. Personally, I'd just pick up the X2, because both chips are close enough at stock that you wouldn't notice much difference, but the X2 runs cooler, so that would do it for me in your situation.

It'll come out to the same price once you figure in a good Intel motherboard.

X2 3800+ hands down, The 920 is only $37USD cheaper( so money is not an excuse), it's hotter , slower, and need a very expensive mobo to OC. The X2 3800+ is faster at stock, cooler OCED and at stock, and OCs to 2.6-2.7GHz (need a PD 4GHz+ to equal that) With cheap boards, Are you still thinking about it?

...Maybe because Desktop AMD CPUS are better?

Pentium-D's have 64 bit as well..

HE IS NOT OVERCLOCKING. LET ME REPEAT NO OVERCLOCK. If he was i would say 3800. Since he isnt there is no need for a $200 mb for the intel. So its $30 he saves on the processor and the ram may be useable in the future unlike the ddr of the 3800.

X2 3800 or a Pentium D920

thety are not even in the same league. Speed wise 3800+ competes well with 940 or 950 in a global benchmark scene. The 3800 also uses about 1/3 the power.

April 23 Intel price slash: 920 for $209, 930 for $241, 940 for $316. The best part is the C1 stepping enables EIST and Enhanced Halt. These prices are finally going to give the X2 a run for their money. No doubt AMD will cut the price as well, however, at this moment there is very little reason to get a 9xx series.

So what are you going to get?

I am leaning towards the X2 3800 at the moment for the reason that it will end up being marginally cheaper (but frankly costwise it will be exceptionally close).

I think whichever way I go, it will be a huge improvement over the 4.5 year old 800MHz Celeron I'm currently using ;-)
