3800X2 W/ XP-90

I am currently running my X2 3800+ @ 2.5 GHz and it's reaching 54C with my XP-90 and 90mm Panaflo M. The processor is at 1.475 V by the way. This is odd because I think I was running my processor at 2.4 with slightly higher VCore and only reached 53C with 2 prime 95's active. Wow temp has actually just gone to 55, defintely doesn't seem right. Maybe it needs a bit more thermal paste? Strange thing is, and 1.45 or so it was running @ 43C under full load with 2 Prime 95's. I followed the installation directions correctly I think, or did I do something wrong?

Your readings are about right. My experiences are that the temperatures jump sharply when you apply more voltages to your X2 - When I have gone from 2.8Ghz 1.4v to 2.85Ghz 1.5v my temps increased by 7oC! I have found that when you are getting close to the X2s limits the idle temperatures also rocket to i.e. temps in the mid to high 40 oC - I use RMClock to get them undercontrol.

AS5 needs 200 hours to burn in of continuous usage (including turning on and off the computer once in a while)

So how much should temps improve after it has burned in? Also I used the stuff that Thermalright boxes with their products because it scored right inbetween AS5 and Ceramique and the difference was about 1C. EDIT: Also should I lower it to stock speeds to allow the paste to burn in?

Are you saying you just installed the XP90 ?

I'd double check and make sure you don't have a loose corner on that XP90.. Burning in AS probably won't give you more than 2 - 3 degrees..

I'm mid 40's with 2.7 @ 1.5v and 100%CPU ...

Loose corner as in one of the clips isn't attached? Nope they are all attached however I am not sure if it is on the right way. I put it so that the extended fins go over the RAM modules because it wouldn't fit on the other way anyway because the power connector to my mobo is in the way.

it is very hard top compare temps....too many variable...I believe based on my experience your temps are right on..I have a 2-3C increase in temps by adding very small amounts of vcore over stock on my opteron 165 that has a SI120 with Nexus fan...just installed the cpu

my vocre is at 1.46v..temps are 46-48C under load...I live in FL...my temps will be very different from someon up north

Mobo will report temps differently as well

As for temps drops with AS5 "curing"..I have never seen really anything after numerous uses ....

I live in Arizona so that could be part of it, however it's not really too hot outside here in the winter. Wondering if I should maybe take the heatsink off and reapply the thermal grease.

Yeah, re-apply the as5 and ensure that the case is getting good airflow. Those temps are too high for that vcore.

The faster you run the core, the more heat its going to generate, regardless of vcore. Those temps don't look too out of the ordinary, depends on how big of a fan you have on that thing. Thats also alot of volts to be running through an x2 at that speed, mine runs 2.6 at 1.4 vcore, maybe I'm lucky though.

Reinstalled the heatsink and thermal paste. The previous coating on thermal paste maybe was a bit too thick, but I don't really think it would have been so much to do that. Anyway idling now at 33-34C @ 2.4 1.45V. We'll see what happens. I think my X2 may just kinda suck though, it's a CCBWE 0541. Anyone else have this stepping? What are your experiences?

Ambient temp in this room is 71F. Coolermaster Cavalier 3, believe it has 1 x 120mm in the back and an 80 or 90 mm in the front. If your talking about ambient case temp then I don't know, what reading # is this on speed fan? Also I think I am going to be stuck running @ 2.4 which appears to be P95 stable at 1.45 V, but to get 2.5 I need to up VCore to 1.525... Looks like my X2 just kinda sucks, but it's not too bad I got a $630 chip for $320, but it is still always a little disapointing to hear about the people who get 2.8 on 1.4VCore.

I never get the golden chips others get....but I figure getting close is fine..stability is more important than 100mhz

what mobo are you using..1.52v is not bad for 2.5....unless your temps seem real high

are they overall better right now

Doesn't the X2 CPU default to 1.35V? To "test" whether it is your overclock/overvolt causing the high temperatures, why don't you try setting everything to default and check out the temperature?

This Epox board is real screwy and overvolts the thing to 1.45 stock. Also I believe they are around 1.39 or 1.4 stock but I could be wrong so don't quote me on that. I guess I could undervolt it and put it back at 2.0ghz but I don't think it's necessary when it was already running just as cool or cooler on the stock cooler at the same clocks. Anyway idling a 31C 1.45VCore and 2.4Ghz right now. Hope it says around there by some miracle. Heres hoping...

Priming right now @ 2.4Ghz and 1.41V. I don't think I will ever understand the volts on this board... Dang EPoX. Getting 51C load which again, seems sorta high. Already reapplied thermal compound, the heatsink is mounted just fine.... maybe my temps just suck or the motherboard readouts are bad...?

Are you watercooling that chip or are you using the XP-90 also? Those are some pretty high volts.

XP-90 + 92mm PanaFLOW..

Meh, 1.56 isn't too high, and I am not concerned.. Another year or so and I'll be good to go!

oh, you have an epox board. Lawl. My NF3 board said my x2 ran at "81C" with a TT bigtyphoon and 1.4 vcore. Its been F@H stable for 2.5 months, so I think it was okay. Now I just gotta find a temp monitor for my evga board, MBM 5 doesn't support it and nothing came with the mobo drivers...

is that 1.56 in the bios or in winxp

my dfi sli-dr reports high vcore in the bios vs winxp

Yeah my EPoX reports 1.45 in BIOS and skips around a bunch in Windows but this is pretty normal I suppose. I am guessing from these previous posts that EPoX has bad temperature and voltage monitioring?
