Seems pretty good for a presciption frames and lens. And they are made of good parts atleast from what I can tell, they have metal/titanium/bendable/polycarbonate, polarized. All the buzz words

You can even get the progressive light changning lens. Darker in the light, lighter when your indoors for $120 .

This has been posted a couple times before. Last time (about 2 weeks ago), I bit and ordered some glasses. Their communication has been horrible. I had to send 4 emails before getting a (slow) reply. It has been 13 days -- and no glasses or even definite confirm that they've been shipped (they should've shipped a week ago- according to the not so friendly reply I ultimately got).
I think costco is a safer bet and doesn't cost that much more (and was rated #1 by consumer reports for filling perscriptions accurately among chains. Surprisingly many big chains get the perscriptions wrong by half a diopter and 1/4 errors are common.)
I just emailed them (again) today...

I'm not sure why you wouldn't just go to Wal-Mart for your $39 eyeglasses...you get to try different frames, they have an optician for fitment issues or questions, and you save the shipping costs as well.

i didn't know walmart does glasses. I guess i'm out of touch with things. I have my glasses for almost 9 years now. And I remember spending like $300 for them a while back. Maybe glasses are just cheaper nowadays.

SO would it be smarter to just go to Walmart for glasses? Are they quality? OR am I better of going to Lens Crafter or Cohens Opticals or anyone of the large retail glass chains?

I used them earlier this year and was satisfied with what I ordered and received. Yes, their communications was not all that much - as some of us are use to from places like NewEgg that send a half-dozen emails about an order - but I received mine in 13 days or less.

I ordered sunglasses (As I recall, sunglasses are $10 more, so they should be $49.99) and they came in a VERY sturdy frame and fit the bill for what I wanted - a pair for driving in the bright sun. Now, they list a number of shades/tints and I will order another pair to serve as my shooting/hunting glasses with a yellow tint to enhance light-gathering and protect my eyes while I am walking through the woods.

Our health plan allows one pair every other year and I had just bought one on that plan. Even with a $180+ credit from the plan, my VERY simple glasses still cost me $180 out of pocket. Yes, in that set I went with Progressive bifoculs but it was still VERY expensive, as most other frames were up to and over a $100 more - and I did not go with any tint or the like. For my sunglasses, I did not want or need the bifoculs.

As I had just had a checkup, I made sure they properly measured my eyes (according to the website request for data) and it all worked well for me. I strongly urge you to make sure that the frames you choose, are WIDE enough for your head. I have a wide head and it is difficult to find a pair that works but these people did.

If you can find a place that sells it as cheap, go for it. Otherwise, most optical shoppes will fit your new frames from this site for free.

Your choice - $40 vs. $180? You decide...

HI All

There are other optical stores on the web. If anyone is looking for designer glasses as I am here are a few:

www.framesdirect.com
www.giarre.com
www.theeyedoctor.com

Does anyone know where I can get user opinions of these sites. I have looked all over and cant find any.

Also, be careful when dealing with stores that offer real cheap prices for glasses. The quality of plastic that these optical stores use vary greatly. Alot of companies are using cheap stuff from China. Make sure u ask. The best brands of lenses are Zeiss and Pentax. I can tell u right now for 39 dollars u aint gonna get these brands!!!!

HI Again

Everything that has to do with healthcare in America is gone awry. Up in Canada the government controls prices that these opticians charge for their services and even control how much they can markup eyeglass frames. Down here in America we have to put up with bogus coupon offers and sales events from optical places marking crap up 300 percent.

Well, as I type this I'm wearing some eyeglasses that i bought from this site about 5-6 months ago. So far, they haven't fallen apart on me yet *knock on wood*, and I can see clearly, so I'd guess that they got the Rx right. I didn't have any problems when i ordered mine, they came in a little over a week

Years ago, I was the administrator over an optical dispensing service. The standard back then was for all frames - double our cost and add at least $20; no discounts. The lenses were done somewhat the same way.

So when you saw a price of $200 on a frame in a shop that is part of an ophthalmologists practice, it most likely cost them $90 or less. That was nearly 18 years ago but its pretty close to what they do nowadays....

I ordered 2 pair from $39 glasses (one for my wife & sunglasses for myself). If your order 2 pair, you a deal on shipping. I got the express shipping. The website's order status didn't seem to update (showed my order as being in process), but I recieved my order within 7 days and I live in CA.

My wife likes her glasses, and my sunglasses are pretty cool. Frames are made in China, but are as functional as any other plair of Italian or US made frames.

Wow, 9 years! With me being clumsy and my 2 yr old stepping all over my face, I'm lucky if my glasses last 1 year. (Don't get me started on how many times I've lost my RX sunglasses.) I usually stick with the various 2 for 1 deals that most major optical places have. Besides, these are your eyes we are talking about and you get what you pay for, so prolly a good idea to stay away from uber cheap stuff like this. My $.02

I don't think that this is an area where the "you get what you pay for" adage necessarily applies.

Wal-Mart, like most discount optical centers, does not have $7 an hour high school kids grinding lenses in the back room. They buy lenses from optical labs, the same ones, I suspect, that opticians purchase from. There is simply a smaller profit margin at Wal-Mart or a mail-order discounter.

Eyeglass frames and lenses are considered medical devices by the FDA. As a result they are subject to Federal guidelines with regard to quality and safety. As long as you are purchasing your eyeglasses within the U.S., I don't think that you have to spend a great deal of money just to be sure of getting eyeglasses that will not endanger your vision in some way.

Just my 2¢.
