I just had to add my two cents to this thread. I have been building custom cars for almost 20 years. I think some of these socalled "riceburners" are pretty cool, but make sure you have enough money left over to paint it!! Grey primer just kills the whole ground effects thing. And also, please, please don't put 15 inch wide tires on a Geo metro or something. Nothing looks worse than a ghettomobile. And as far as imports/american, each to their own. Everybody has different tastes. And lastly, nothing beats cubic inches. I will race my 69 camaro against any rice rocket in the quarter. You can slap a saturn V rocket on the roof, and still the only thing you will be seeing is my back bumper......

To chime in on this ricer thing... yea, its pretty bad to see people spend so much money on 'performance parts' that cost an arm and a leg and only add 2-3 horsepower.. which goes against the whole rice = cheap theory. I myself have owned a honda/acura (integra) and could not understand why people spend ludicrous amounts of money on parts that do absolutely nothing for the car... it just wasnt made to go fast, and I accepted that and saved up for another car; my bone-stock mr2 runs 14.6 @ 93... people, please save your money and buy a car that was built for speed, and save money in the long haul! Now THATS a bargain

Nothing wrong with a hobby people. I hate getting dissed for something I enjoy doing. Do musicians get flack for spending massive amounts on their music equipment and doing something they love? Sure I could spend the same amount of money buying a car that's already a V-8 spitting out 300+ horsepower, but what's the fun in that? I do what I do and spend the money doing it cuz it's what interests me. Sorry if that bothers alotta people.

Like someone previous stated, everyone has their own tastes. Some "rice-rockets" look gorgous...while some just look down right ridiculous. The only thing I have against "ricers" is people who make idiotic upgrades. For example, why lower your car when you don't get camber kits to go with them? I can understand if you don't initially have the money to do so but why don't you save up and get both at the same time? I would think the thought of having to get new tires every 8 months would motivate you to get camber kits as they would be a much cheaper solution. I have a friend who refuses to get camber kits. HE'S OUT OF MONEY AND IS RUNNING ON 4..YES 4 SPARES!.

Edit: He popped his SPARE 2 days ago and called me to ask if he could borrow my spare...lol

Incubus311 no sh*t. STFU with the threadcrapping. you got your top performers, so do we. you got your gay ones, so do we. why dont i get a mustang?

1. can i get one for 1500$?
2. I DON'T LIKE THE LOOKS
3. in our eyes they're reliable
4. most friends and family own them and we've grown accustom to them.
4a. trade/buy/sell parts
4b. we know how to fix them
4c. we enjoy it as a hobby
5. easier to fix with many import mechanics around

Cheezy you IDIOT. cobra? again comparing apples and oranges. your mustang
can beat an accord stock. gee what a surprise a sports car can beat a sedan.
and this "Also, chicks dig American sports cars....Not Ricers" you ignorant LLAMA. you obviously have no clue about the HUGE import scene. what rock have you been under. let me school you, do a search for IMPORT MODELS

Hey guys. Just wanted to add some input =) I'm a college student and fairly broke, and I do agree that body kits, are somewhat cool, but too expensive for the look ^_~ I just got a 97 Accord, put after market lights on it, and may add a spoiler in the future...but my point is...the 10 grand I bought it for will give me at least another 200,000 =) I have an 89 Honda Accord LXi, and it died in September at 199,100...after it had been rear ended, then chop-shopped ^_^ Honda's are great..and I love my 33mpg!

I was reading this post and it seems like many id1ots are bashing on "rice cars" japanese cars.

Maybe some of us are pissed of that japanese car makers drove many hicks out of jobs and basically closed of detroit car district.

The fact is "rice cars" are a better than american cars. A stock supra WILL leave any mustang behind so far that it think it got lost.

Not only are the japanese makeing better quality cars they are doing it for less $$$.

So there are the facts why companies that make rice (toyota, honda etc. etc.)cars are so profitable. And american company like Ford can't get their @sses out of lawsuits, because they cars kill many people cuz they suck.

I am just sick of people who live in the 70s bash asian made products. Wake up and open your eyes, your problably one the the many who are driving rice cars, and are pissed of cuz their are so damn good.

Please don't hate!

This all is all coming from a American

They no longer make supras, rx7's, 3z's, etc cuz they weren't selling well after awhile and it wasn't as profitable, (sniff sniff). There is a huge price difference though between these cars and a mustang, camaro(sort of) and hondas, etc. I don't think that these sports cars can really be considered rice cuz they are on par both price level wise and performance wise with other sports cars. Sure they can beat a mustang, but a mustang will still beat an integra, blah blah, etc. this from a korean guy.

V8 or VTEC: It really is a matter of opinion. Everyone on this board can spout their own opinions, but really it is just that. I have a V8 SUV and a turbo I4. Both do their jobs fine.

Body kits can make your car look better, if you are willing to make the investment; and as long as the kit fits. One major problem with some of the fiberglass kits (esp. copies like the one this thread is selling) is that they do not fit well and are usually made way too thin. Stick with a reputable dealer and pay a little more.

This is tasteful:

misterj,

I was not implying that a Cobra-R and Accord were in the same ball park. I was simply going against some previous posters who had said "I beat the pants off of a Camaro...etc.".

Read the rest of my post and you will see what I mean. If you put aftermarkets on any Accord or any Asian car...Sure you are gonna beat a Mustang. Apples and Oranges again right? Point is dont come around me saying your Accord is faster than my car when if I put parts on my car it would be the hell out of that.

Thats all I am saying.

And no I must be under a rock or hanging out with the wrong crowd because the people I know think pimped out Ricers look rediculous. I am sorry but I guess thats what living in the midwest does to people. I have the feelind that midwesterners are more drawn to V8s.

One more thing misterj...There was no reason to be mean and get your panties in a bunch over what I said...It was just my opinions.

cheezy-

here's our argument
you bought your car for 20k (i really dunno how much it costs)
we bought our car for 10k, tweak it out with 7k, and still have 3k left over =]

I just cannot get over how silly those hondas or toyotas look with the asian writing all over them, the shopping cart handle wings on the back, lowered so much that the side skirts scrape the ground, and to top it off, either one or two large fart-pipes comming out the back that are so big someone could stick their head in them.

I also wonder how many people in here have actually driven/worked on fast cars? I worked on cars for the past 6 years of my life and worked on/around race cars for the past three.

I am biased and think that the only real automobile is one that has a v8 at least. I also have yet to see an Import short of a ferrari or tt porsche that will give either my friends 750 HP saleen or my other buddies 1000 HP cobra a run for their money. But if I had the money the only car I would even consider getting is a nice new stock Viper.

Hey Cheezy, try an Skyline GTR or Evo V/VI or WRX... Any of these cars can show a Cobra their backside in a road race. The Skyline will also beat it in the 1/8 & 1/4 mile...
As for beating a Camaro, its true... My 95 Nissan 300ZX TT runs in the 8s all day in the quarter. I can also beat all of the C5s, Cobras, Camaros, and TAs that I race in Solo 2. I also beat a Race Prepped Cobra at the TMS Road Track this last Fall. My car is STREET LEGAL in TX...
I don't know what more to add... I did modify it some, but any good mechanic will modify his ride...
