ugh...let me enlighten:

<< when you don't get camber kits to go with them? >>

an alignment can fix camber problems. every single last car is different. not every one needs a camber if they drop or chance wheel diameter.

shotgun,

<< You know what I'm talking about, the cars with the almost foot-wide exhaust pipes that accomplish nothing more (yeah yeah backpressure) than making their 4-cylinder rice burning engine have a horrendous high pitched sputter? >>

man if they know what they are doing they will avoid back pressure...if you dont have more air to push thru, you are right...you dont need wide exhaust that much. but it does help it breathe. and if you go dual exhuast, a t connection and split will avoid back pressure.

its a hobby. some people collect stamps. we all do major stuff on computers, what if i tell you its stupid to keep spending your money on upgrading?? and then called you a nerd. offensive huh??

I'd have to agree with legitimate points made by "both sides" of this discussion. Back in the day the original hot rod scene didn't have the luxury of lots of cash to fix up their rides, so they'd get inexpensive cars and in very creative ways push those things to their limit and beyond. In light of this I can respect what people are doing to their inexpensive asian or american cars because it all goes back to the idea of turning a 'cheap car' into something much more. More than that, it's all about having fun with it.
The unfortunate thing is that most all of the newer cars are a pain in the ass to 'do it yourself' with, so personally it's not my thing since I dread the thought of having to send my car into a shop to get modified. Paying someone else to do the dirty work cheapens the experience.
I have a pair of old Cougars - 67 and 68 which in spite of their unfinished states are my pride and joy as nearly every nut and bolt has been turned by my own hand. One of them is sporting a 460, which required a bit of finess and imagination to get in there. In my experiences with these cars I've found a solidarity with other 1st gen. Cougar owners that has crossed many racial and ethnic backgrounds, whereas if I'm in my Supra it seems other Supra owners generally could give a rats ass about one another - maybe a point in favour of the older american cars. I guess what I'm trying to sum up is that both 'scenes' have their own advantages that shouldn't be so quickly discounted, though I'd rather stick with a real challenge that can't just be bought off the shelf.

I personally think Rice boy cars are GAY, unless we are talking about the high end ones like supra or skyline GTR

all other rice boy can suck it like civic, they look like crap i dont give a sh1t how fast they are and how cheap they are. they look gay
"Just to let ya know...
95 NISSAN 300ZX TT - 32000 miles $14500
Stillen Stage 2 Turbo Kit - 650HP $4850
ACT Clutch $300
Slotted Brakes & Pads $400
Coilovers $1600
Strut Bars $275
Stillen Front Facia & Painted $850
Misc $1000"

OMG fixing up a 95 car, you sure is not going to break down on you?
is really pitiful to fix up cheap cars, is telling people that u can't afford better cars. If you can afford a SKYLINE GTR and fix it even more up, thats over 100k, i can just get a 911 turbo and will beat the sh1t out of it. stock Skyline GTR is not even faster than the new bmw m3 2000
I mean why keep wasting your money to fix this car up or that car up? Why not just save your money and buy a freaking PHAT ass car like a the new M3 2000 model. 337 HP, this car might not be as fast as some of those gay rice boy car, but which car do you think the girls going to choose to get in?

Man, for those people who fix up civics, you guys are pitiful, first the car looks like crap no matter how u freaking fix it up. 2nd is civic, 3rd is a civic, 4th is a damn civic, 5th is a civic....

Well that was a little harsh but I agree on some points.

Glad someone finally back me up on the girl thing...In the midwest girls would rather get into a Mustang or Camaro than a pimped out Ricer.

I guess the Ricers havent gotten into Chicago that much. Maybe its cuz I live in the Chicago burbs and when I go to work every day at my little cubicle in a big corp. office building all I see it Mercedes, Beemers, Volvos, and other nice cars. I never see any stupid Ricers beside me.

Maybe I should go to the south side of Chi town and look for them....Someone help me out because I am not seeing the Ricer craze here.

If you go to smaller college towns, you usually see a handfull of "ricers"(That just sounds so dorrogatory =/ ), as well as in Ca/along the coasts. AS to how they look..obviously just a matter of opinion ^_~

It's true that it's silly to drive your souped up car to your workplace, but those hooking these cars up aren't meaning to take them to work. It's either their hobby car, or drag strip/racetrack car, etc.

ok i think rational intelligence is seriously lacking in this thread! Virtually NONE of the arguments, for "ricers" or against is a logical argument!! Cmon people we are supposed to be intelligent!

YOU DO NOT COMPARE A NEW STOCK CAR TO A USED MODIFIED CAR!!! Its a ridiculous argument to say that your modded 95 import is faster than a 2000 domestic and you saved money, b/c you could buy a 95 domestic FAR cheaper and mod it as well...

if you compare like to like...a good price on a 00 v8 stang is under $18,000...260hp, IRS, etc..about the same as a Civic Si and cheaper than an Integra GSR, and a little faster...OR you could buy a 95 stang for about $8,000, supercharge it for $3k, and for $11k youll whip anything while retaining good everyday driving characteristics...

RELIABILITY: Yes imports are more reliable but it seems MANY american car haters on here think that domestics break down after 10,000 miles! Virtually ALL new cars, whatever the make, go to 100k these days w/o problems! EXCEPT WHEN THEY ARE MODIFIED! The modded ricers I see arounf the bay area drive fairly new cars, but by 70-80k their motors, clutches etc.. are worn out from 7000rpm shifting required to reach their power band! Its amazing to see newer Integras and Sentras SMOKING like a car from the 70's cuzz their motors are already blown! A stock Domestic car (or stock ANYTHING) will be much more reliable than a modded car of any origin...just read about any "tuner cars" which often break down during magazine testing...

MILEAGE: Again, dont compare modded cars to stock cars...some person said a Mustang v8 gets 10mpg...a stock Stang will NEVER get mileage that low..even hard driving will get you low teens....BUT SO WILL AN MODDED IMPORT!! Anytime you put a chip or other engine mods and drive hard, mileage goes down the drain....a stock v6 200 hp mustang averages 30mpg in freeway driving b/c the motor is not stressed...but an Civic modded to 200 hp will NEVER see 30mpg again...

GIRLS: Im a promoter for both Import and Lowrider shows, and By and large, the girls into imports are the biggest hoochies and hoes around...the raving, ecstasy-dropping, clubbing ditzes of whatever nationality (white, asian, latina, etc)....the lowrider girls arent any better..just more ghetto....easy to score with both types, but everyone is screwing these girls! they are STD buckets! i know LOTS of people who have been burned...but if youre attracted to that kind thing,,,thats your own business....and yes there are some exceptions but that IS THE GENERAL RULE (go to an import show and see for yourself).... as someone else stated, most decent girls will be more impressed with a nice STOCK Benz or Beemer any day...

The original discussion was of a body kit, which has no practical purpose as these are street cars...people have made comparisons to modding your computer, BUT WOULD YOU PAY BIG $$$ TO MOD YOUR COMPUTER IF THE PART DIDNT MAKE IT WORK BETTER??? Body kits dont fit as well, offer less crash protection, and many time look plain stupid! The nicely done ones make the appearance of the car better, but the sad reality is that there are NOT as many nicely done ones as there are TACKY ones on the road...yes the show cars ALL look nice, but the cars you see on the street everyday have kits in primer, cracked, and roll on temporary spares...and thats whats stupid....

My ride's not even tricked out but for the people who are sitting around blasting the guys who fix up there car is a bunch of B$. Even the owns who think it's okay cause..."I'm Asian". As Bigbootydaddy keeps reiterating, it's a freaken' hobby, and an asian subculture I might add. I just think it's a good idea to stick to the deal at hand, if you don't like it, then shut your hole and move on to the next post cause this entire thread has a serious underlying theme of racism (on both sides).

Howdy All,

Final Post

Tired of all of the Negative Feed out in this thread...

I happen to also own a 2000 S6 with some slight mods... Great car to tool around in when I have to go to work one day a week...

As far as the new M3, its a great car at $45,000... Nothing says money like a nice european car... Girls tend to like money cars also... (OPINION ONLY)

I just happen to love freaken out Nissans, Toyotas, and other Japanese cars.
I can get parts and have a fairly complete shop to work in. I mod cars for fun and to see how fast I can go.

I race in TX, OK, LA, NM, sometimes, AZ & CA. I race both Strip & Road, especially SOLO 2 and SCCA races... All of my cars are Street Legal in TX...
So, if anyone would like to try me, just shoot me an email...

if not, please PEACE OUT...

Speedo68

Will have pics of all of my cars by tomorrow...

Oh, yeah, you guys think you're all tight with your cars, but you haven't seen anything yet. Check out my car.

It's a 1995 Toyota Tercell, yes!!!!, I know you're all druling. It's a lemon salvaged green tercell with no power stering, 100% crapo rims, and up untill just now when i just fixed it, only one working speaker that was all rusted. Oh, yeah the dome light didn't work and the radio didn't keep it's memory eaither, that is untill i finally replaced the blown fuse. It has been rear ended, and backed up into by big suvs. It has like three whole gears too and it can dust any turtle, ant or snail on the road. So there, how do you like that.

My 2 cents.

American V8's are cool. Japanese 9000+rpm VTEC inline 4's are fun. Those Japanese Wankels are also fun. German 6cyl boxers are great, and when they get turbo charged, they are beyond fun. German inline 6's are also nice. But, then, there are those Italian V12's, and they are really something.

HYMAN,

My girl friend had the '92 version of the same car in cracked vinal trim when she was in collage.

two quick points from waht i know.

i own a 92 integra that is chipped and everything, but looks about stock except that it has 3-piece rims and is lowered.....for PERFORMANCE PURPOSES. i still get 30 MPG even after all the mods, which is pretty good, so not all modded cars get low unless you are constantly pushing it to redline, which NOBODY DOES. people that do race their cars go to the runs, and the rest of the time drive their cars normally, if not MORE CAREFULLY than most people.

oh yeah, and asians aren't the only ones into rice rockets. i am in the bay area and yeah, a majority are but there are a LOT of people into the import scene, myself included, that are into that stuff.

And one last thing ON TOPIC, this is a GOOD DEAL. most fiberglass body kits are never fitted perfectly even if they guarentee that they will. as long as you get it installed in a good place, it should be okay. However, i would say go for urathene because it is a better value and less likely to crack. like someone said earlier, check out www.groupbuycenter.com if you are really looking for good deals on this stuff.

On one last note, i acknowledge that all cars have something good about them. Why doesn't anyone else understand this? stop hating!!!

oh yeah, for anyone who is interested, the black widow for the 96-97 accord is one of the only outrageous kits that looks nice, in my opinion anyway. If you get this kit, see if you could also get a deal on the fenders and hood, to complete it. this kit goes for $899 everywhere else.

Cheezy:

Trust me, if you come to the south side of chitown, you'll see two types of cars:

1) Cars which look like they came from a junkyard: Typical Ghetto-mobile.

2) Lexus, Cadillac, Mercedes: Drugdealer-mobile.

Both can be easily seen by rims which are worth more than the car (ghetto-mobile), no license-tags (again, ghetto-mobile), and enough damage to legally total the car (you guessed it--ghetto mobile). Drugdealer-mobiles, on the other hand, are usually raised or lowered (to the extremes), may have hydraulics, and the drivers usually ride so low, you mistake them for elderly people.

Ghetto people have a lot of problems, but one of their good points is a definate non-affliction with the love of rice-mobiles.

If people say fixing up there car because is a hobby, i got nothign against that

but if you fix up a car for the looks and/or speed..... You are freaking stup1d come on now, first u freaking void warantee, 2nd you are wasting money, 3rd if we are talkign about ghetto cars like civics, is still ugly no matter how u fix it up. with all that fixing up, you can get a new car without mods, with warantee, probably looks better and feels luxury. people who fix up civics, accords, integra, prelude, looking at how much money u are wasting... you can probably get a BMW 3 series with that money, and dont' freaking tell me you car is better than a 3 series, cuz i think u r smoking if you do.

malathion,

Thanks for pointing that out. Obviously, what I meant was the Japanese (Mazda) made rotary engines. Wankel is a German name as obviously as Toyoda and Matsuda are Japanese.

I have had a couple of those turbo charged Mazda's, '88 and '94, and I really liked them. If they ever come out with the next model, I will probably get one, although I doubt that Ford would let them especially in the US.

hkssupra69,

Mazda still make those RX-7's and sell them in Japan.
Listen to how the Wankel sounds

Toyota also still makes Supra. Z's are gone.

youre such a hypocrite. who the heck do you think you are by telling us, domestic OR import, that we cant do what we want??? M3 is a great car, but some will tell you its not flashy enough, it looks conservative. Integras and preludes are aggresive. and if you havent noticed, i wouldnt reference anyone as G4Y as the mods are cracking down on this, because all you do is put down those...and frankly no one takes you seriously.

take this for example. some people have barely enough to pay financing on a civic. (college kids included...i mean they DONT have time for a good paying job). the things get better, you might get a raise, or pay off some bills, and you can spend some money on WHATEVER you chose, i dont gotta get approval through you. and , IM no STUPID just cause i desire to do that. i dont have money down for an M3, cause thats my favorite car. but i do have some 100 bucks left over...to get an intake. maybe even some cams. what are you gonna do about it?? im not gonna save it up, im gonna stick in school, and work hard so i can get a good job to support myself, then ill think about, "a dream car". the cars are a hobby, whether its civic's or camaro's. Im not gonna hate just because its not to my liking. ill agree some kits are ugly, but its not your money, quit whining already. You arent anyone to take my freedom away to like what i want or do what i want. Im sure anyone would agree to this.

For those of you who have commented on wanting a Viper... Have any of you boys ever driven one? My Brother bought one not long ago. He came over so excited... About a week later he returned it to the dealer, because it drives horridly.. The car is hot inside from the engine, the thing is really loud and anoying, the car can't make turns too well (this is normal city speed turns, not racing turns...). This car is only good on the track doing drag racing or something. It's are really crappy and cheaply made car. Look nice, but that's about it... 60+k isn't worth it on that car, I much rather have something else... I'm happy with my 2k Celica GT-S...

P.S.
most of the expensive "exotics" are nice to dream about but once you own one... they are really disapointing and a waste of money. A neighbor of a close friend owns a black Lamborghini Diablo (VT I belive, don't hold me on that one...). Nice car, much nicer than the Viper however, it still is very disapointing.. I also know someone who owns a Hummer, that is another expensive disapointing car. They are for show and that's pretty much it.. You can get a better ride from a 2000 Accord or a 2000 celica GT-S.

EDIT** on the Diablo, it's like they didn't do too much R&D on the body. If you get a chance to see one in real life you'll notice to open the doors the windows roll down a bit, if not they would either break off or not allow the door to open. That is just part of the poor design. Seems like they got the design then at the last minute said, OH CRAP, we can't open the doors... Oh well lets just install a motor to roll the windows down and up as the door opens/closes... Oh well... Save your money...

fxsts - I totally agree with you on the rotary engines, they kick ass while they last, but the fact that they basically slowly self destruct is kind of an issue. I've had 4 rx7s over the last 8 years and all of them died a slow, painful (leaking) death. Oh well, they were fun while they lasted.
