There have been a lot of good, thoughtful and insightful posts here. Of course theres the rest, too

Let me just say one thing, real racers race on the track. If you race on streets your taking other peoples lives in your own hands. The streets are shared by all, with all kinds of driving skills. 16 to 79 yo are driving, kids are playing, RV's are blocking the road, cars are at a dead stop around the blind corner. Even though you have perfect mastery of your vehicle, does the idjit who revs his motor at the stoplight? What if he looses control racing with you and kills himself or even worse others.

I'm sure your faster than the other car. Please don't prove it on the streets. I know some are going to say I couldn't possibly afford to go to the track. I hope someone can think of an answer for that.

Here goes the Japanese vs American cars arguement again. To me car is more like computer.

Japanese cars with 4 engine stock - Celeron / Duron.
Japanese cars with 4 engine turboized - Celeron / Duron overclocked.

American cars with V8 engine stock - Pentium III.
American cars with V8 engine supercharged - Pentium III overclocked.

German cars with stock engine - Athlon.
German cars with turboized engine - Athlon overclocked.

Japanese cars with tuned up equipments will beat the American car in stock. It's more like Celron / Duron 600 OC 800 will beat Pentium III 700. German cars with same HP will beat American cars. More like Athlon with same speed of Pentium III will out perform the Pentium III. Do you guys agree with me? (Hope I didn't wage another war for AMD vs Intel here.)

Myself as American ricer (Ricer with Mustang), I agreed Japanese cars are more reliable than American cars. I was a college boy back then and can only afford American cars. Everybody have different taste.

This is just my own personal opinion. Please no flame. Peace!!

I like what the wooster is ssying and its pretty much true.
As for Spec411 and dafatha00 you guys can SUCK IT!!!!!!!! Obiviously hooked on phonics didn't work for you guys. So you guys are saying I am a dumbass about my opnion of Japanese cars over American, it maybe "dumbass" to you, but many of my friends and other people would pick those cars over American cars. I hope its ok if I can have an opinion, oh no wait according to Spec411 and dafath00 you are a dumbass if you have an opinion SCREW you guys. Also learn to read guys, calling me ignorant? Read this line over again and after you read it over 20 which will take you a week then hopefully you can understand what I meant by ignorant. If you don't understand...Jump off a bridge!
"Personally as a Chinese I think "ricerockets" is pretty derogatory, but whatever if you want to be ignorant then go head"

Oh yeah dafatha00 and how I refered to the japanese cars as being "ours" is a f-ing typo dumbass sheez..So if I were you, I'd shut my mouth and read people's threads carefully before I critize their opinions BIZNITCH!

Once again, screw you guys

hmmm lots of stuff said but. hmm where to begin.

i agree with different parts of lots of posts.
comparing price ranges a mustang would smoke the prelude. the mustang would still smoke the type-r. even tho the mustang is sooo much quicker i would take the prelude or type-r over the mustang. everyone has their own opinion on things. half the hooked up import cars i see are ugly TO ME. there are those civics with spoilers sooo big you'd think it could fly but then again old domestic cars did that too back in the day. i guess im just saying that let people do what they want. oh and calling modded imports "rice rockets" is pretty racist to me as well...

<< "rice rockets" >>

I dont think it's meant to be taken as a racist term.
I can see how it could be taken as one.
What it comes down to is personal taste.
You like wings that can make your stang, typeR or 540 fly, that's alright.
But they won't be getting respect for me.

I did see this one nice Lexus (forgot the name), man it looked sweet.
Had a light application of ground effects and slightly bigger spoiler with nice rims.

Case in point, there are domestic, european and import ricers, and frankly, IMO, they all stink.

Mustangs and Camaros are belly-button cars, everybody's got one or sold one after they found out how much better Japanese and German cars are. Blast away Detroit boys!

Im a "detroit boy", and I had a z-28
People who have only driven imports dont know how FUN a powerful rear wheel drive car can be!

For example, lets see any ricer do this for $2000...

http://auctionimages.homestead.com/camaro.html

Thats how much i paid in 94, fully modded, (lowered, tinted, rims, stereo, etc)....drove the s$%^ out of it, then sold it on eb@y 5 years later at a $5000 profit....and it got 20mpg when it wasnt tearing up the pavement...

oh yeah, and it was tuned for high-end rather than low-end grunt, people rarely see a Camaro turning 6500 rpm but this baby flew...

spec411:

I agreed with you. For the people who never drove rear driven sport car, you will miss the fun of it. I have a Mustang and a Camry. Mustang for summer and Camry for winter. Right now I already missed the fun of driving my Mustang.

wooster...heck ya! My olds 442 (pic posted earlier above) just cant go out in the winter....600+ lb/ft of torque at about 2500 rpm and the rear end slides sideways even when taking off gently if the ground is damp!!! Now that baby never sees 10mpg, even on a good day!

Heres one: how many cars do you know that seat 5, weigh 4000+ lbs, can do 0-60 in under 6 secs and the quarter mile just under 13 (ok..BMW m5, jag xjr and benz clk/e55) but...for less than $5,000?? I think you get the idea!

In my opinion, the muscle cars had the first applications of rear wheel steering---if I want to make a u turn quicker, just floor it and the whole rear end slides right around!! =)

american cars are worthless, unreliable, POS's. Until the honkey's in detroit can learn to build a car that will stay together for 5 years and not have 18 recalls, imports will ALWAYS be better, more reliable, with better gas milage. Put a few mods on em, and you have a car that will kick a mustangs ass, and be cheaper too.

Luckster - something ya might be overlooking is that cars aren't built to last anymore. The imports do have the advantage of generally less maintenance and longer lifespan (if they aren't driven into the ground). Those "boys in Detroit" are building crap cars on purpose so that people will have to buy new ones in 5 to 8 years time - that's how they keep in business, though I think it's bad business and I'm sure you'd all agree.

The days are long gone of cars from any country that will stay on the road for 30+ years, and also gone are any cars that will be classics ever again. I don't foresee anyone buying a 2001 Camry or Camaro (etc) in 15 - 20 years and getting the itch to restore it.
These are sad times we live in.

Luckster, at least you get recalls, which means you don't pay for repairs. I have friends who want to sue Mitsubushi over their cars because they refused to pay for the crappy brakes that came with the cars. My 95 Mustang had seen only 4 recalls and they were all minor things. At 80,000 miles I have yet to change the brakes (still .5mil or something like that). So far no major problems. Had a 93 escort before and no major problems with that car either. Whereas I have family memebrs put out several hundred dollars to repair their Camarys and Lexuses, something I never had to do with our Fords. In fact my aunt just got suck for a $300 bill on a cracked door handle (and they said they were nice because they didn't add in the cost of parts, ick!). Like I said earlier it's all the matter of luck on the car.

First off.. whoever said that a mustang will break down after one year doesnt really know what they are talking about. Mustangs have been awarded highest reliability by car and driver for every year of the last decade. Imports versus domestic simply comes down to displacement versus engine specific management. Personally I think v8's are primitive.. are not well engineered and ineffecient. Imports definitely achieve more hp per liter. On the other hand, if you just want to buy speed, a mustang or a camaro will be more much more cost efficient compared to a civic with a motor swap, new pistons and a turbo.

Hehehe... those rice cakes are funny as hell. I love seeing those tin cans slide along the pavement with their girly skirts. And the asianinvasion writing is way cool. The thumping BASS always amazes me to wonder how it doesn't break apart those flimsy coooool ground effects. Those things only pick up cheap nasty hoes who don't get picked up in the nice cars. Forget the camparing oranges to apples thing. Stop embarrassing yourselves comparing men's cars to civics and accords. Come on!! It is a freakin CIVIC!! My sister, the beautiful sweet lil thing... always laughs at the guys driving those lil hondas. A real MAN cannot even fit in one of those go carts. And it is a total waste of $. Poor Jose Sanchez just spent 3 months of pizza tips on his ground effects and is living in a $hit whole with his flabby B!tch and 2 year old son.

I will enlighten all of you with some good advice. Save the $500 in rice patties and invest the money... and in 30 years you will have roughly $15,000 to put toward a real man's car.

unclemo -

that is probably the most ridiculous excuse of a forum post anyone can ever imagine. for those of us who don't sit around day and night on the couch watching tv and drinking beer with your "man" car parked outside your duplex. ooh, watch out, i've got a camaro. i've got a REAL man's car. i just dropped half my inbred child's college tuition on a V8 piece of scrap metal. look at me go. *boom* oh, that's okay, just another $1000 worth of repairs...

unclemo sounds like a stuck-up snob to me. he thinks he's all rich and everything and that makes him a cool "man". but i personally don't think so... dunno about u guys.. just my opinion.

don't mean to stereotype or anything, but it seems as if souping up imports is "in" asian blood (i've heard this said by many as well). not to say that it's ONLY asians that do that kinda thing. don't jump all over me or anything. most of the asians i know DO drive imports, and DO make modifications to it. i also know non-asians that do this sorta thing, but the percentage is much lower. or maybe cuz there's just so many asians in the nyc area... dunno... i dunno anything...

Hey Unclemo....hehehehe...those red necks are soooo funny. It really kills me to see how much S*it they talk. They live in those trailers with the pink flimingos and the kiddie tubs on the so-called front lawn. Then they have the standard piece of junk car on the side which was supposed to be fixed and tweaked out 3 years ago! Then there is the big satillite dish that poor old Earl spent 2 months salary on so he could watch t.v. and drink beer on his days off. Oh, and by the way your sister got in my Beamer and I showed her i was a "real man" and she liked it!!!!! So save the $500 dollars spent on Keystone Light and get a new paint job for the trailer!!!

Num Nutz = unclemo Real Man = Big Cert

I drive a mustang.
Ok, I admit that I don't know how to drive because I barely drive over 3000rpm ....
Anyone willing to share the opinions about how to drive?? Thanks in advance ...

stso, i know youre probably joking and are a good driver...in everyday driving, most of us wont exceed 3000 rpm....put your pedal to the floor and watch the rpms rise...you probably only exceed 3000 rpm when passing vehicles..

theres no need to race on public streets, and it endangers citizens....if you want to learn about performance driving, there are many courses which teach you,,,the techniques taught DO improve your driving on the street...such as how to control car in a skid, etc...

some driving schools to search on the web for are:
Skip Barber
Russell Jackson
Bob Bondurant

some use their own cars, some use your car...

Even Malibu Grand Prix (the mini car racing amusement park) has a Bob Bondurant mini-car course which teaches the basics, such as the proper line through a turn, etc... plus you get 10 laps in their cars, all for $19.....its really a good program EVERYONE should take, especially younger drivers...

AND THATS A HOT DEAL!!

ahhh ok i think everyone gets the idea now. you don't like a civic? fine that's your opinion. nobody wants to hear it. you don't like a mustang? fine same to you. everyone likes "their" car and that's why they bought it. whatever floats your boat. do it cause you want to. not cause it'll make you cool. that's what really pisses me off. you guys know that there are import and domestic riceboys right? ever seen a neon with some gay ass racing stripes? or how about a cavalier with a shopping cart spoiler? the other day i saw a fiero with a metal wing 4 feet off the trunk. there are always gonna be dumb people who ruin it for the rest of the group.

and if you really need a car (german, import, domestic, skateboard, whatever the hell you have) to get a girl, you need to get off these boards and off the internet so you can get a life. i can get plenty of girls that will drive ME around. i don't need a hundred thousand dollar car to make myself cool.

http://www.riceboypage.com this one should make you laugh. yes there are imports AND domestics here.

ok, you know what??

Both cars are great, and really it doesnt matter. As long as you arent like Unclemo, then life is good.

we got a name for you Unclemo...but in the sake of maturity, which you show that you have none...ill shut up and resist.

BTW, you got a one cause your soooo cool your number one. ooh big man....tution you say??? Oh look, i got a real car, and tuition is no problem....cause mommy and daddy pay for it. YEAH, thats a real man. Thick and thin times describe a man...not cars. obviously youre still a boy.
