If you want to upgrade the hard drive to something a little speedier, this is the best deal I've found on a 200GB 7200rpm SATA drive ($109.99 after $30 MIR, + a couple bucks shipping -- limit of 5 on the rebate).

If you don't like rebates, they also have the Seagate Momentus 200GB for $119.99 + shipping (3-year warranty handled by OWC).

Reviews on Newegg go back and forth on both drives, but they appear to perform similarly.

Ok thank you for the quick launch info! I have tried several different versions of the Atheros 5007 driver but cannot find any reference to the gpio for ledcontrol in my registry. I have searched for atheros but the specified section of the registry doesn't exist. Has anyone had luck in getting the wifi led to work? This laptop is GREAT so far.

You need to add these two parameters to the Registry under
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{ID}\xxxx

do a search for Atheros in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class

"gpioPinFunc0"="3"
"gpioFunc0ActHi"="0"

finally got it. SLOW processing for sure. anyways, it feels hotter than it should be. Otherwise the build quality seems nice - although i feel like i could probably scratch the case.


anyways my biggest issue is the battery...i want that battery life in hours listed!!!! A percentage isn't good enough. A search on the net has produced this information thus far

a) both hp and ms are oblivious to the issue
b) hp tech support gives links to widgits that don't work
c) it maybe due to hp half assing a real battery sub system that doesn't send all the information in the name of saving money
d) some blame it on vista, because a live cd for linux pulls the time just fine
e) some blame it on HP, because other laptops easily show the time left

g) everyone thinks its retarded that you deal with this

Anyone know where to get a hi-cap battery for this? Most places I've been searching have the 12 cell battery, but looks like it may be shaped a little differently (a curve in the short sides of the battery). My 8 year old can wear the original out in short order
