my friend has a 9700pro, athlon 2800, gig of ram and he only got a 10,000 on 3dmark 2001. so i checked his directx version and it said 8.0. so i dl/ed 9.0 and installed it but 3dmark still says he has 8.0. will this fix his score? and how do i get it to update?

**UPDATE** ok, so i dled the new patch and he got about 1000 more points. he had like a 11600 or something, up from the 10600. that still seems really low, anything else i can do to get another easy 1000 points? **UPDATE**

Mine still states I have DirectX 8.1 under the display properties, but rest assured DX9 is installed and functioning.

Why is he Moron , because he obviously is running a little short in preformance! I'm running a score of 10,000 and have not quite that powerful of a system! But gf4200isdabest, if you can't be a little more positive and help a fellow out without being negative! "WHY POST anything!" Oh, by the way - if you think a GF 4200 is da best - your da wrong! My leadtek 4600 will walk all over your 4200, and mine ain't even close to being "da best".

Just curious ,what does your Direct X version say if you go to START > RUN and type DXDIAG? What version does it say it is in there?

ie. is it the original version of 3DMark2001SE or has the latest patch been applied. If it's not even SE, I doubt if it will recoginse anything newer than 8.0.

You're a moron just like nick for not realizing i don't even own a gf4200...The nickname is an old inside joke that you're obviously not in on. You're also a moron for that "obvious" part in your statement. Unless 3dmark is now a game that you people play (which i'm now suspecting it is), it's worthless...One "solution" is to download the new drivers; they're sure to have all sorts of new hacks to artificially boost your 3dmark score...

Could be, somethings definately amiss. I was scorin better than 11K with a ti4400/P4 2.53/2x512 PC2700 combo.

No, you're a moron for assuming something...

I will continue to just post the "." with my sig in every 3dmark thread i see because it's a complete waste of everyone's time. Not getting a certain score on a benchmark hardly constitutes a "problem" on your pc. Maybe I should make a photoshopped img showing "You got 999999999 3dmarks" and let you people download it so you'll STFU

WHAT THE HEL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT! "Your going to post something about me?" Dude, get a life! Obviously you don't like 3dmark! However, there are many peeps in this forum that see different! Oh, but I Know.."There Morons Right?" I quess you don't have anything better to do than rag on 3dmark users. You must not have much knowledge other wise!

No, i don't agree...So many members of the AT forums have made very good posts on why people shouldn't care about 3dmark and no one has ever come up with good reasons to support the program. Yet everyday people continue asking questions about their 3dmark score. It's just plain annoying and the only logical explanation as to why someone would do it is "they are a moron"

I know I win the debate. You're on a side that can't win. The real problem is that I don't win an end to 3dmark threads...Now that would be a hell of a victory...

By the way, you've made a complete fool of yourself by trying to defend something and then failing to do so. Just go to sleep.

Personally, I find 3DMark a very good tool. I don't use it to measure my length compared to yours, but I do use to measure if my own system is a little limp. It is a great tweak tool because it runs a variety of different conditions versus a single game benchmark will only test one type of video implementation.

Its funny though, I sure have seen alot of people claiming that its worthless and I sure haven't seen those arguements as to why. I know it sure let me know that the much hyped FX cards really were mostly hype and I could spend my money more wisely on a Geforce 4 or an ATI. The fact that Nvidia so wanted to discredit it tells me that it has real value. Anyway you are entitled to your opinion and your also entitled to call others names, but just make sure you take a deep hard look in the mirror because sometimes those names you call are tattooed on your very own forehead.

P.S. There is a solution to there never being an end to 3DMark threads, don't click on them and they won't worry you so much.

Yeah, lets turn down the nerdage a couple notches and stop complaining cause some people feel like using a benchmark that is completely useful for benchmarking your system against itself to chart performance gains or losses from hardware or driver tweaking. Thanks!

That would be all true if not for the fact that systems tweaked for 3dmark constantly performed worse in games/apps...Your post is cute WarCon, unfortunately it hinges on the fallacy that 3dmark accurately benches your system. All gains and losses are in 3dmarks, not in actual system performance. I wonder if people like MistaTastyCakes think 3dmark is a game in it of itself...

I guess it depends on what you are tweaking, I use it to decide if things like driver versions make a difference in quality (visible because I always test using the same exact settings) and in speed. I also test to see if various motherboard settings mean much difference in video throughput (like various memory timings), and yes you can see a direct correlation in 3DMark2001 in various system performance tweaks (probably shouldn't be so dependent on system for its measurements but it is). And last but not least, I check for stability with it.

If I were adjusting various settings in my video control panel just to produce better scores then you might have a point, but that is not what I use it for. I set my video card for what I think looks best in the games I play (mostly high quality) and that is what I create a 3DMark score from. I then have a known reproducable number to judge my systems performance by (in case it seems to be having issues). I have seen spyware applications lower my score (installed from software bought at the store) and it was 3DMark that set me looking for the cause. It has it uses, as does any sythetic benchmark, be it measuring MFLOPS or memory bandwidth. But as is the case with all tools, its functionality is a product of the skill of the user.

thats so not true.I think 3dmark is a very important element of establishing a good performing and stable system.
