It's a perfect example of the industry trying to push some novelty item as must need when the consumer market really didn't want it. Nobody really wanted to wear those glasses and even then it's nothing special.

The TV I bought right out of college in 2012 has 3D capabilities. It was fun to mess around with from time to time...but I can count on a single handle the amount of times I used it lol.

Still have that TV -- still a fucking CRISP image.

If they find a way to combine 3D technology with Rihanna's crotchless booty cleavage pants technology from that other OT post, we might come up with something people want to buy!

speaking of 3d TV, i was so psyched about VR and bought the oculus when it went on sale

but man does that thing give me headaches after 45-60 minutes

maybe there is no substitute for real life after all

Real life also sucks.

And also gives me headaches.

I liked 3D. The theater type of 3D, not the red/blue glasses 3D.
I still have a lot of 3D movies and 3D purchases off of VuDu.
3D was a learning curve however. I realized that "passive" 3D was the only 3D to buy because the glasses were not powered (no battery) and that saved a lot of headaches vs active 3D and those damn battery powered glasses that would constantly drop connection to the TV. And another plus for "passive" 3D, it used the same glasses that movie theaters hand out for their 3D movies, so you could just go to a theater to see a 3D movie, then keep the glasses. Just take them home and add to your glass collection for your home 3D TV. LG was the best passive 3D, then Samsung ( I think it was a Samsung). Home 3D TV wasn't the best in the world and had its downfalls, but tossing in a 3D Blu-Ray and watching a 3D movie once in a white was kinda fun. I no longer have a 3D TV, and I gave my 3D 65" LG to my sister. She still has it.
