3D vision + dual monitors + SLI

Sup yal. I'm not brand loyal by any means. I generally get the fastest single card solution. I do senseless upgrades to whatever the top end single card GPU is at the time, and right now, sitting on a 5970. My TVPC has an x6 with a GTX 280 OC in it (going to put a 460 i have laying around in there for dx11) for my 3D gaming and 3D movies.

Anyway, enough with the back story. I have a couple of Asus 120hz displays that support 3D vision (I have a total of 4 glasses for my TVPC) and want to do some 3D gaming on my desktop, rather than the TV. 2x 570s destroy my 5970. I'm probably going to throw a single GTX 580 in my wife's desktop so she can do some 3D gaming. Replacing her 5870.

I'm looking at 2x GTX 570 cards in sli. I've got a corsair 1100W PSU right now, i7 960, 5970, 12GB DDR3 1600, 2x intel 160GB SSD raid0, blah blah

Now if anyone is still with me, my questions are
1. Does nvidia support dual monitors with 2 cards in SLI?
2. Does 3dvision work with SLI? Giving you the benefits of both cards?
3. 1100W should be plenty, no?
4. Should I bother running my heat in the winter if I go with 2x GTX 570?

I will be able to help you out by thursday or friday cause I'm adding another panel to my gtx580 sli rig. One screen is the one in the sig and the other one will be 120hz 3D ready, as I will be switching between the two depending on the game/support.

1. Dual monitors works yes, but you can't game on both obviously.
2. Yes 3D benefits immensely from SLI, since you're effectively cutting your fps in half.
3. Tons, enough for SLI 580s even
4. Depends where you live I guess. I'd freeze to death even with Quad 480s if I had them.

So what do you think of your 120Hz Asus monitors? I'm so close to saying f-it and and picking up a VG236H or waiting until I can grab the AW2310 if I can get a decent price break on it around Christmas time... I almost always stick with PQ over speed but this 120Hz stuff is really making me wonder....

I like them. Takes some adjusting right off the bat. Make sure you wear sunglasses while you adjust it.

1. actually he can. nvidia surround is their equivalent of eyefinity, and lets you play on multiple monitors at once. nVidia also introduced what they call 3d surround. 3d surround combines surround vision (their eyefinity) with 3d to get a 3d on multiple monitors concurrently.

holy doodoo! i was perfectly content with 3d on 1 monitor and keeping my IMs and stuff open on another, but damn! i was asking these questions because back when a buddy had 2x 8800GTS cards, he couldn't even use his dual monitors when he ran SLI. rather than stay ignorant (and not have to hit search myself!), figured i'd ask here. like i said, i'm not brand loyal, i'll get whatever is the hotness at the time.


one last thing i forgot to ask. when using sli, has nvidia fixed it so you gain the benefit of both card's memory, or is it still just the total of 1 card?

You should really read your own link before posting, you're pretty poorly informed.

Grab the VG236HE, you won't regret it, they look awesome, and even Anand gave them a really good review. the Alienwares are only worth it if you get them on sale.

Having the bezel in the middle is an excellent reason why you SHOULDN'T use 2 monitors, only 1 or 3... but CAN you use 2 monitors?

Grab the VG236HE, you won't regret it, they look awesome, and even Anand gave them a really good review. the Alienwares are only worth it if you get them on sale.

also, you cant do nvidia surround unless you run SLI last I had read, you have to have 2 cards
