That's basically what GT 710 is made for, except for gaming. GT 730 GDDR5 or GT 1030 GDDR5 may be okay at running games, but at no more than 720p-900p. If games are older, those GT cards should be good enough for 1080p. But by old, I mean 15 year old games or older like Oblivion, UT 2004, Far Cry. Those cards are too weak for maxed out Far Cry 2. BTW these are GPUs and not accelerators, accelerators couldn't produce any 3D completely independently, they only accelerated some 3D pipeline stages to help CPU cope with games.

I thought that they could be a new AIB for nVidia cards. Seems rather reasonable idea, except that timing might be poor.

Agreed with the most, except that Far Cry 2 is totally playable on max settings DX10 with 2X MSAA on GK107 @ 1080p. You get 30 to 70 FPS. Not super smooth, but playable enough. With the AA off, it gets even better! DX9 a bit worse of course. For some reason, DX10 in this game is so much quicker, like 20-30%.

But was it with physics and etc? I had it with GTX 650 Ti on max and it fps dropped to 40s during first mission with explosions. FC2 is also brutal on older CPUs.

Yeah, I've just been playing it. Pretty good for such an old and slow GPU.

Yeah, I have had occasional drops to 29 maybe, but its usually ~35-45 on average with some locations hitting 60 and even 70 fps. I play SP mostly. Also, it works a lot better with DX10 than DX9. Latest patch v1.03 without any mods (there are some cool ones).

FC2 is also brutal on older CPUs.

Game's primarily single threaded, so the clock speed matters here. I've been playing it on 4790K @ 4.8 Ghz though. Don't remember how slower CPUs fared back then, since I didn't play the game when it launched back in 2008.

So it's similar then. I personally can't tolerate poor fps or dropy fps, when I clearly have quite powerful hardware, so for me fps shouldn't drop bellow 60, at worst bellow 50. So I had to disable some things to get there with 650 Ti, but I didn't sacrifice AA. It's on 8x or 4x.

My Athlon 760K bottlenecks 650 Ti quite hard. I don't doubt that that it utilizes two cores well and I wouldn't be surprised if it utilized 4 cores as well. Games back then rather quickly transitioned from single to quad core code. Dual cores were left in dust quickly. And particularly a game with some presumably impressive physics, could utilize all four. It might not have, but other physics heavy game, Red Faction Guerilla certainly did and not only it could do that, but it pretty much needed a quad core for playable experience. Core 2 Quad for it was minimum spec with nasty drops to 20s. You really needed to overclock it or just get Nehalem i7, even then fps would violently drop. That game was basically a Crysis for CPU. It might have been smoot on Sandy i5/i7, maybe overclocked i5 or i7. Those old games despite being old, sometimes were oddly very demanding.
