3dfx: Great Stuff, but a little too late???

If the Rampage has:

(1) Tiling scheme that works (no visual artifacts or incompatibilities),
(2) A solid fillrate,
(3) A normal single-CPU design,
(4) Retains 3dfx's stability, FSAA and 22 bit rendering techniques,

Then I'd say 3dfx will be back in the competition.

BFG, by next generation, I don't see much of a need for 16-bit, aside from FSAA.

of course, with FSAA enabled, 32-bit on a 5500 is almost a waste.

I assume you're talking about buffering frames and then simply not rendering them, but the frames get counted in a benchmark anyway?

that's "not allowed" in the WHQL-certification process.

Remind me of what version of nvidia's drivers are WHQL-certified please?

It basically becomes very jerky. It skips rendering the frame but the game still counts it in the timedemo. Thats basically what Rivazone is saying.

You miss half the action what fun is that? Its good for lower resolutions but not for higher. Guess we will have to wait for the final drivers to see what HSR does.

Well HSR is just a reg hack to we cant blame 3dfx!
I would call any company a cheater company who drops frames in the drivers!
Strange enough 3dfx scarifice picture quality for speed!!

As always. If the NV20 kicks ass then it's my buy. If 3dfx kicks ass then I'll go for that.

DaveB3D: What the f*ck do you mean by stability?!?!. So 3dfx is more stable than Nvidia...woohooo. Such BS. I have no stability problem with my Geforce or TNT2, neither had my friends (TNT, TNT2, GF and GF2) and Nvidia tweaked their drivers and still doing.

Just to remove any thinkers thinking I'm Biased . As far as I can remember we didn't have any stability problems with the Voodoo1 & 2. And no I'm not an Nvidiot...read my first sentence.

AoD, Dave didnt say me thought nVidia's products were any more unstable than 3dfx's, though I can take a wild guess at what he'd answer if someone saked

But I agree, I've had a Riva128, TNT, Voodoo2, Voodoo3, TNT2-Ultra, and now a GF DDR, and I dont have any complaints about any of them really.
