Thought this was interesting

Not sure how many of you ever had a 3dfx card - but I remember loving my Voodoo3 2000 and being really sad when 3dfx went bankrupt. Pretty interesting though to hear these guys talk essentially about starting a whole industry on the PC. From grabbing arcade contracts to considering designing a whole custom "motherboard" instead of an addon card.

I'll have to watch that when I get home.

I still have my Diamond Monster 3D Voodoo 1. It's buried in a box in the garage. I doubt it works anymore but I still pick it up and look at it from time to time when I run across it. Memories...

I had a Voodoo2, but I remember before when me friend came in town and brought his Voodoo 1. We put it in my Pentium 60 machine at the time and fired up Descent (1 or 2 I can't remember) with the Glide settings. I have never since that moment seen as huge of an upgrade as that. It was a different ball game.

The most innovative gpu company. nvidia isn't even as close. (for 1-2 years only)

in before the usual suspects say I'm wrong because they're always right on the interwebs

I hope this doesn't remind me of former pro-players who talk themselves up on TV after their careers are over. You'd think Barkley won 3 ring .

I had a Voodoo 1 and 2 (and ISDN - all for Quake), but if they didn't do it, someone else would have.

I still remember getting my Orchid Righteous 3d like it was yesterday. Installed in my pentium 75, fired up tomb raider and realized that this was the way of the future.

Who here remembers the anticipation of the release of GLquake? It was a little quirky to get running if i remember correctly but once it was going, it was like lifting a muddy screen off the PC, everything was soooo clear and you could practically see to infinity!

Quake had Glide, OpenGL, Verite, and S3 renderers IIRC, after which OpenGL and D3D standardized things somewhat. I remember getting the Quake demo to run over a serial cable.

Yep had a Voodoo 1 and 2 myself.

Was shortly after I popped my Pentium 40 to a 60 chip, first mod I ever did.

That was even in an old Packard Bell with a 14 inch screen if I remember right.

Most innovative? Please list your reasons.

I would argue that they weren't any more innovative than anyone else, just cheaper out the gate with the original Voodoo.

I wonder how different the GPU landscape would be if Apple purchased 3dfx instead of NVIDIA.
