Wow, stunned to see this post. Whenever i hear of 3DFX, my eyes go all wide open. They were really the best of the best.

With just 2 major GPU Manufacturers, its only NVIDIA and ATI.

Just imagine this.......... suppose that

ATI Releases the Radeon X900 this year ( Only suppose ), after that
NVIDIA releases the Geforce 7500 Ultra ( Only suppose ),

Than when every one is busy performing tests on both Cards, something comes out from the Blue.

Just like HollyWood Movies.

" 3DFX VOODOO 10000 ", WE KICK ASS!!!

Thats not going to happen as we know but what if a miracle, its surely going to destroy NV and R away.

For now, S3 and SIS are just licking away the bits and shreds of NV and R Cores........

Thank you for your comments, waste of space, yeah it is....

While out of all my posts, i had only asked questions and questions.

Most of you are just sitting back, increasing your status.

cant imagine how people go upto the Lifer Status

Fact is, you're asking questions regarding a hypothetical situation that won't happen. 3dfx was bought by nvidia years ago. There is no more 3dfx, since nvidia bought 3dfx and got rid of them. Since they also own all of their IP, nobody else can come "out from the blue", call themselves 3dfx and start some kinda revolution either.

So, I really wonder what the point of this thread is, other than to increase our post counts?

Exactly. And 3dfx was not the best of the best. I'm not saying this as a 3dfx basher (I owned both a Voodoo2 PCI and Voodoo5 PCI).Their last two generations of card were missing important features such as 32bit color (Voodoo3) and T&L(Voodoo5). 3dfx was the best when they released the Voodoo2, but after that they went down hill.

I missed the 3dfx days. Back then I could have a kick-ass Voodoo3 for under $150. Nowadays, at $500-600, the price of a video card has got to be at an all-time high...

As I recall, the voodoo cards didn't have fans then. Today's cards are hotter than the epicenter of a nuclear blast.

agreed. i have owned and suggested many v3 cards after they became obsolete, for their 2d quality and ability to run old glide games adequately well at dirt cheap price, not for their performance or featureset. v5 was slower and had less features + arguably worse IQ except for the superior FSAA which could only be realized in flight sims or racing games (who wants to play fps in low res anyway, cards of this generation really lacked the power to do it in high res). I still have my v5 5500 pci if you must know

sold my voodoo5 pci a couple weeks ago for 47.99 on ebay. One thing I liked about 3dfx was that they didnt abandon the PCI format on their high end cards. But now I have AGP so I don't care

The Voodoo and Voodoo 2 were significant. You guys (and gals) who grew up after 3D acceleration was the norm don't know what it was like to see a game in Glide for the first time. Anything ATI or Nvidia has done since then cannot really be compared to that breakthrough. I'd rather have a Voodoo 1 in 1996 (or whenever) than a 6800U/X800XTPE now.

count me out on that, i had powerVR 1st generation, rendition v1000 and voodoo1 cards back in the days. out of the three, i heavily favored the voodoo for obvious reasons

Oh jyess....my first 3d accelerator was a VooDoo2 SLI setup, and let me tell you, having played Unreal (partially) in software, and then firing it up on that new rig with the dual V2s for the first time...holy crap.

Looking back, it's somewhat funny that I was blown away by a game in 800x600 with bilinear and No AA, but hey - 1998 was a different era...

Nvidia owns 3dfx = it's not coming back unless Nvidia is on the brink of pulling a 3dfx.

actually 3dfx got it's arse handed to it by nvidia, which led to nvidia owning 3dfx literally after doing it figuratively...you are suffering from "good old days syndrome" like my grandfather who always told me about the "good old days" when i was younger, until i pointed out to him those "good old days" werein fact the great depression...

Also Nvidia didn't buy them. They sort of took over all their technologies, and got a few key things, but they didn't get their debt.
