A moderator has been caught IMHO making it known that he knew they were going to cancel the V5 6000 weeks before the press release;

http://www.3dfxgamers.com/boards.as...osted&boardsort=lastpost&boardpage=21

He says, "Wrong, all you boyos, I knew the V5 was going to be cancelled weeks before but
I wasn't about to tell until the press release."

Now he is trying to cover his butt by saying he meant "a weak" not "weeks". I say it couldn't be a typo because he missed the "a" as well as the "s"

Previously he stated that his computer has been down for weeks (during the time that he knew of the fiasco) to cover up why he wasn't telling readers.

What's your point? That a 3dfx employee knew company plans ahead of time, & didn't publicly divulge them?

That probably would have cost him his job.

It is evidence of the topic; 3DFX misleads it's loyal customers.

Moderators are trying to tell the readers there that 3dfx made the decision just before press release. They appear to be covering up the fact that 3dfx led it's fans by the nose to keep them from buying a GF2 Ultra.

No, it doesn't mean anything.

There were a lot of things to be worked out, a lot of issues to be reolved, etc. I know for a fact though they he didn't know week before.

I agree with Viper - if this employee mentioned anything ahead of the announcement it would probably be the last thing that he/she would post as an employee of that company.

As far as knowing something would be cancelled ahead of time and then actually having it cancelled, well they are two different things. I have worked on two engineering projects that were cancelled and in both cases we (the team) knew it would be cancelled weeks in advance of the corporate/management announcement. First there are the rumors, then there will be the quirky managemenet decisions ("don't work on XYZ like you have been for the last year, start working on ABC instead&quot, then there will be the management yanking people who are required to finish the project and putting them on another project, finally there will be the Q&A sessions where someone on the team will ask, point-blank, "are you going to cancel this project?" and the management will dodge the question. Eventually after a few weeks of this, and a whole bunch of lunchtime discussions with your teammates you will decide that you "know" that this project is about to be flushed. Then it's just a matter of waiting for management to get around to telling you.

So I don't find that it's a contradiction at all to know in advance of the announcement that a project will be cancelled and I don't find it to be "lies" for a corporate representative to say that it won't be cancelled even though that individual may suspect otherwise.

He isn't an employee of 3dfx, he is one of the "volunteer" moderators. In other words he works for free.

"No, it doesn't mean anything." -"All my opinion.. don't bitch about it."
-how do you know for a fact?

If he's a volunteer works-for-free moderator, how can his viewpoints, comments and thoughts be representative of the company 3dfx? Perhaps he is misleading and/or lying to 3dfx's customers, but he's not an employee so it's not representative of 3dfx on the whole.

And, like Viper and PM said, he knew before it happened but didn't say anything? Big deal...you don't really know how big companies wrok do you? I know many things that are going on in the company I work for, and if I were to say anything about any of it to someone outside the company it would result in my being fired at the least.

Hardware, is that you? I thought you were gonna stop this, but your inability to post a working link gave you away.

yep, looks like poor hardware may have created a new account. The only thing that makes me wonder, is the fairly good grammar. Anyway, do away with the sensational title which is only there to attract readers. Just about anyone with half a brain couldn't possibly believe this is some sort of wrongdoing on 3dfx's part. Most of us believe it is a good move for 3dfx anyway.

I just gotta hop in with an official "Dave is right!" comment here. This wasn't any kind of conspiracy, we pretty much announced 6000 status changes as they happened.

madthumbs, who cares?

1) He's a moderator. He doesn't represent 3dfx

2) IF he was given information, he would've been under NDA, and couldn't say anything anyway

3) Maybe he was just full of $hit????

good heavens......

RoboTECH;

Obviously you care, otherwise you wouldn't have wasted your time responding.

1) He is a moderator selected by 3dfx to represent their interests wether he is paid or not.

2) He had practically nothing to lose but his integrity. Who would sacrifice their integrity for a company that doesn't even pay them? It wasn't just a matter of witholding information.

3) I think either way, if 3dfx was leading people on or not, he was full of $hit.

People should care. Potential consumers are concerned with wether they can trust what 3dfx announces. They don't want to feel like they were sold on vapor ware just to hurt the competition (something that may be going on with Intel as well). Anyone who uses the message boards there may be concerned about the integrity of its moderators as well. You may have no interest because you have no interest in 3dfx. However if they execute the HSR plan properly, they may be back in the big league. Has anyone tried the HSR patch to SoF that I posted here? It works for FAKK2, and Quake3 also, but it corrupts the graphics, and is probably the reason that HSR hasn't been enabled in the drivers. In some cases I believe I got around 30 more fps on a V5 5500agp in OGL games. With 3dfx back in the running, I think people would be more concerned.

In closing, If anyone doesn't think this post was worth while, when you see any of my posts... please skip over them. All the "who cares" posts have no point/ purpose, and just bring this message board down. Out of 3 major message boards I use, this is the only one that gave me negative feedback on this post. Can you guess which one I could easily depart with? Maybe this post doesn't interest you, but you didn't have to read or post to it.
