the shareholders meetings are just a formality. unless you have 100's of millions to lend them, nice try

how you gonna save a company that has already lost its entire pool of talent except save for maybe a few vigilantes??

well, let's face the reality. 3dfx isn't making money, so they want to sell the company. And nVidia wants to buy it. If they don't sell it to nVidia, they'll get nothing for their stocks.

I know, it's sad to see a company go down like that, but they've made mistakes, and it's time for the consequence. (They decide to buy STB and start selling their own boards like ATI and Matrox....)

I dare argue that a petition to get rid of 3Dfx would get more signatures than one to save them.

It is a little naive. I happen to know quite a few shareholders (unfortunately) and I can assure you that the odds of any of them reading this petition are so remote that the fact that they wouldn't pay any attention at all to the petition wouldn't matter.

Do you honestly think that a petition will change the fact that virtually all of the employees have found other jobs at this point? Who will do the work? They have no future product, so what will they sell?

Any shareholder who wants any hope of seeing any money will vote yes to the resolution. At this stage 3Dfx is so dead that they would have no hope of achieving anything except an enormous waste of money if they changed course.

A silly petition will do nothing for 3dfx. The fact remains that they filed for bankruptcy and they have to sell to a bigger company. So unless there's a lot of rich 3dfx fanboys willing to lend a bunch of dough, the buyout will proceed as normal. nVidia has already acquired a lot of their engineers. Face the facts. 3dfx is over. Sad but true.

It's amazing what senior members can mess up (with)

VooDoo sucked since V2 anyway b/c of 32bit color.

nVidia will suck someday too,

same as the old boss.

"It is amazing what junior members can come up!"

Wtf does that mean? That just because he's posted ~800 less times than you, that he's not very bright? Or that someone with a high post count could never come up with a hair-brained idea? There are plenty of people here with 1000+ posts, who have very few quality ideas to contribute.

In summation: Post counts have nothing to do with one's character.

(EDIT: Not that your idea is "hair-brained", Elf. Maybe a bit idealistic, though. )

Hey, I thought I was complimenting on EvilElf's great idea! I didn't say that this was a stupid post . All I said was I was amazed by this wonderous plan to save 3dfx, so gimme a break.

I think it would be more productive to petition Nvidia to produce support for 3dfx products, or at least get a legal action since they did lose a lawsuit. Both of these are far fetched ideas also.

Either 3dfx dissolves and sells its assets to NVidia, or they file for bankrupcy and people can sort through the pieces that are left over. Losing 250 Million in one quater is quite a bit, especially since there stock valuation at the time was only about 200 Million. (Sounds like one of those Internet companies doesn't it?)

why petition for 3dfx?

need support? use the Web community, this forum being a perfect example of a good place to go. people can hook you up with drivers or whatever help you may need for your aging 3dfx cards.

3dfx no longer exists and that's just the way the cookie crumbled. it's their own fault for a.) producing an inferior product and b.) releasing said inferior product almost a year late. the strong survive, the weak fall, that's how the business world works. economic Darwinism, if you will.

rather than petitioning nVidia to support now- or soon-to-be obsolete 3dfx hardware, petition them to LOWER PRICES ON THEIR NEW GPUs so that people can afford to have current hardware and not be forced to hang onto their old, unsupported hardware
