3dfx stops making Graphic Cards, just chips, no more STB

We are currently delivering 3dfx Voodoo brand video cards into the retail and other markets and have made no announcements to the contrary. We have announced, however, that we plan to stop manufacturing the boards themselves and outsource this process to 3rd party manufacturers. This action will not only make our current retail business more profitable, but it will allow 3dfx to more aggressively enter new, more profitable markets with our products. As Bubba said in his Gamecenter interview, "There's a difference between not making your card and not manufacturing your card."

I personally liked it better when 3dfx was just a chip company. It gave you a lot more options when you were shopping around for a Voodoo Graphics based solution. You could either get a mainstream Diamond or Creative board or you able to splurge for a high-end solution like Canopus or Quantum3D. It's still too bad they acquired STB in the aquisition process a couple years back, because they made damn good cards for the price (I still have an STB TNT card that I use in test beds and diagnostics).
