Yes, I ran all tests at default resolutions, even though my monitor is set to 1680x1050.

The results are actually comparable with other people on Futuremark ORB.

I believe that some MB's might have problems with PCIe 2.0, and might require a BIOS update.

I get over 8000 with my rig below. I haven't run it in a while to see what i actually get now with newer drivers.

e6400 @ stock clocks (I don't know how to OC processors at all :[ )
Gigabyte S3
2GB (1 GB Corsair XMS2 PC6400 @ stock and 2 x 512 value crap RAM)
eVGA 8800GT @ stock clocks
Antec Trio 550W

I'm pretty sure this card could get me over 10,000 points, but I suspect it's either my RAM or CPU holding me back.

Well, yesterday I scored a 2171 with my current system. I ran the test 3 times and my system would crash at the same point every time. Resolution set at 1280x1024.

AMD X2 3800+ (OC'd to 2.5Ghz)
2Gb DDR 400 (2x512mb)
ATI Saphite X850XT
DFI Lanparty Ultra NF4

Then I swapped out the video card for my new BFG 8800GT OC into the exact same system with the same resolution and that scored 6016. On Monday the rest of my new parts arrive so I'll have some new numbers.

hopefully that link will work.

is that about right?

Yep, right on. You are slightly (just slightly) CPU limited. It shouldn't affect much at all in the real world (games). I ran a 3800+ @ 2.5Ghz, had 8,900 for my GTS 640MB, then I upgraded to a Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz and it went up to 11,500. Know what though? The actual SM2/SM3 scores were pretty much the same... The Q6600 was slightly higher (less than 5%), but the CPU score was far, far greater. Thus, proving again, that Future mark is absolutely retarded to use the CPU score to factor your 3DMarks. It is quite misleading.

maybe they are for current games, but aren't future games much more likely to be limited by cpu and gpu both? crysis comes to mind as a game that is supposed to have a very large benefit from additional cores.

that makes a lot of sense. the manufacturers will certainly benefit a lot if their products have a good oc reputation.

Did you do a clean uninstall of the ATI drivers? Your score should easily be in the upper 8000 to low 9000 range.

Not a clean uninstall. Just went to add/remove programs and uninstalled it there. I am sure there are still some remaining files in the system. Honestly, I didn't want to put too much time in it since I am building the new system on Monday complete with a fresh install of Vista 64 on a new hard drive.

I figured it was just the lack of dual channel ram that was holding back my score. I have some generic IBM sticks in there now.

I'm holding out for the new G92-based 128SP 8800GTS 512MB or maybe even the next step up. I've still got 70 days left on my step-up.

Well, here's on my current config, GeForce 7-Series:

3DM06: 10,397
Q6600 @ 3.0GHz
4GB DDR2-1066
Dual eVGA 7950GT 512MB in SLI.
eVGA NF68-A1 680i-SLI

Odd that you're only about 150 points higher than my system: Q6600 @ 3.2, 8800GT @ 700/975, 32-bit XP.
