Now that WWDC has come to a close what are your intial impressions of the new iPhone! Check the apple store for an informative page on their changes. I will say the main point is the new price of the phone. I hated paying 400 for my previous iphone but love the fact I can buy 2 now for that price!

Sorry to have to merge your thread again, but I think these threads might work better if they are all in the same place

Yep. Little asterix next to the $199 price on Apple.com:

Requires new 2-year AT&T rate plan, sold separately.

I'm confused about the thickness of it.

Overall, it's what we expected, I have a few doubts about things like MMS.

You can buy it and use it with another provider. The price is out the door and not tied to a contract, AT&T is simply requiring that you have a contract if you want their $20/month iphone data plan.

That's how I understand it anyway...

Seems to be a hair thicker, but with tapered edges so it feels better in the hand?

So if I were to walk into an Apple store to buy an iPhone 3G, would they sell it to me for a more expensive price or force me to sign up with AT&T then and there?

AT+T's iPhone site is down. Which isn't good news. So we don't know how much this is, do we?

I pay $50+ a month for 450 minutes and like 500 texts from Verizon. I often go over on both. No data, of course, crap phone that's three years old (I didn't do my "new every two" because of, exactly, the chance at a 3G iPhone). Now that I found out I can swap the cards into a beater phone, I'm pretty much sold...unless it's like, twice as much for a plan.

Sigh.

Nope, its 1 price OTD as far as we can tell right now (based on the previous way it was done and the fine print below)

You buy it and activate at home, so if you plan to unlock and not sign a contract, you just buy it and unlock it.

It better be the same as it was or i'll be annoyed.

Yea.. I got caught up in the hooplah of the event, but now that I sit down and think about it.. they didn't change the main thing that I wanted, which was MMS, copy and paste, and IM. Hopefully that's coming from somewhere else, since it's still over a month away until release.

Damn! Engadget is reporting the internet plans went up by $10/mo for 3g, so its now $30 extra. Stil cheaper than most other services, but well, that sucks.

Plastic, but they changed the buttons to metal.

That is what I pay for my blackberry plan. I wonder if the normal corporate discounts on rate plans apply. These things are going to sell like crazy. I wonder if they will drop the price on the touch.

I would think they would have to now, otherwise people would just buy the iPhone and unlock it to use as an ipod.

That's just too much.

$39.99 - 450 anytime minutes/5K night-time minutes (includes 200 texts)
$15 - 1500 text messages and 5mb of data (200 is not even close to enough)
$30 - iphone unlimited data plan (which for some reason doesn't include texts)
~$10 - taxes and fees (this hurts much less if you relax and don't fight it....)

$95/month for that is a no go for me. That is way too much for a damn phone. I total $60/month now and it's a lot. I need to be rich.

Wait, iPhone data plans used to be $20 a month? I was told when I bought my BlackJack II (paying $30 a month for data) that the iPhone data plan was the same price?

Wow that's weird, why would it be cheaper than the Blackberry plan or the windows mobile plan?

I thought the only thing that was "locked" were the actual phone features. Does that mean I can't just buy it to use as a plain iPod without first unlocking? Is unlocking endorsed by Apple or is it something that's kinda shady?

Speaking of the iPod touch...this is such typical Apple (I'm not bashing them; I'm typing this on a G4 Powerbook, and I don't see the need to be a retarded Apple-hating Lemming)...buttttttt....

So they release their back to school promo..FREE iPod Touch! That's a $299 value! So how many people rush to buy new macbooks, iMacs, etc. Then, two weeks later, they release an 8gig iPhone for $199. So how, exactly, is an 8gig iPod Touch worth $299 now? Well, of course, it isn't.

But Apple sure sold a lot of computers in the mean time, I bet (some of which were probably older-stock iMacs -- they got refreshed today -- and older laptops, which will be refreshed in a month or so)

Steve Jobs deserves every penny of his salary.

Sorry, i meant to say jailbroken and activated (not unlocked). Currently you cant just buy and iPhone and use it as an iPod, the whole thing is unusable until either you activate it and sign up for service, or you use a jailbreaking program and activate/jailbreak it.
