How do I get a 3G iPhone?
  • In the US, the 3G iPhone will be sold at both AT&T Wireless and Apple Stores on July 11th, 2008 (Time TBD but rumored to be 8am. Brick & Mortar stores only right now, no word yet as to online availability)
  • 2-Year Contract Required (Unlike the previous iPhone, the contract will need to be signed and the phone activated before you leave the store. $175 early termination fee)
  • 3G Unlimited Data Plan is $30/mo (up $10/mo from the previous iPhone and no longer includes 200 text messages)
  • Maximum of 3 iPhones per customer at launch
Am I eligible to get a 3G iPhone?
  • Since the 3G iPhone is now subsidized by AT&T Wireless, you need to either be a new customer or be eligible for an upgrade in order to get the 3G iPhone at the subsidized price
  • Who is eligible? (specifically)
    • New AT&T Wireless customers
    • Current AT&T Wireless customers signing up for a new line of service (Add a Line)
    • Current AT&T Wireless customers who are not in an existing contract
    • Current AT&T Wireless customers who did NOT receive a subsidized price on a phone in the past 22 months (this is where most previous iPhone customers fall within as the previous iPhone was not subsidized).
  • If you want to be 100% sure as to your eligibility status, log into your account at http://wireless.att.com and you can see if you are currently eligible for an upgrade, and if not, on which date will you be eligible.
  • Existing AT&T customers who are not currently eligible for an upgrade discount can purchase iPhone 3G for $399 for the 8GB model or $499 for the 16GB model. Both options require a new two-year service agreement.
How much will the new 3G iPhone cost me?
Launch Day Details (what we know so far - some rumors/speculation)
  • 8am Launch at both AT&T Stores and Apple Stores (Confirmed)
  • Speculation of either 50-75 phones per AT&T Store (might be as high as 150), while Apple stores will likely have 750-1000 per store.
  • White iPhone 3G possibly not available at launch
  • One 3g iPhone per customer at AT&T Stores (Confirmed)
  • Enterprise Users MUST purchase at an AT&T Store (Confirmed)

That's the most important part...

He said more affordable, but didn't specify yet. Should be any second.

I could probably just shoot Steve (Jobs) a quick text and ask him. We are tight. And by that I mean I'm on my MacBook at work right now.

I heard they are going to be cheaper to buy, but the monthly plans will go up to help offset that. If that is the case I probably won't end up picking one up. 80-90/month on a phone is pretty spendy.

Battery life on 3G iPhone:

300 hours of standby
2G talk-time now has 10 hours (as opposed to 5)
5 hours of 3G talk-time (most 3G phones have a 3 hour 3G talk time)
5 to 6 hours of high-speed browsing
7 hours of video
24 hours of audio

Mind if I copy that into the OP?

He didn't really specify a contract or not, but I'd imagine the details will be up on Apple.com later today.

Yeah, but where you going to go with your new unlocked iPhone? Stupid TMobile uses different frequencies for their 3G service. Of course, you could just go to TMo and stick with EDGE, but if you're going to do that, might as well buy a used old iPhone for cheap.

I guess I'm going to have to do just that (use iPhone 3G on EDGE) until my TMo contract is up. :|
