The Yellow Motorola Walkabout radios usually go for $50 or more, but they were going for $9.98 at my CompUSA.

These were being discontinued at my CompUSA. Someone took notice, and all 6 were gone in 5 minutes.

Good luck in finding them! They're a GREAT deal if you can get it. ONLY THE YELLOW ONES, so make sure you don't get a different color. The blue were about $30. Still a great deal, but too expensive in my opinion.

If I remember correctly, it was a 2 mile range, 14 channels, and 38 privacy codes. Not to mention the things are built as tough as a Panzer.

Slightly OT, but I was doing some research on FRS vs. GRMS:

The license cost $85 for a five-year GRMS license, covering you and your immediate family. If you don't get a license, you're a "Bubble Pack Pirate." The link also has more general info on GRMS.

Not to confuse people: the deal here is for a FRS radio, which does not require any license. If you shop for FRS radios though, they are often stocked right next to GRMS radios and some radios are combo FRS/GRMS. The 5-mile range looks attractive, but you might not notice the license requirement in the fine print.

REAL WORLD ranges of FRS (Hint: it's not 2 miles. Try 1/4 - 1/2 line of sight.)

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, but (if this is the right model) I think this rebate will work (unless it has some fine print about not exceeding purchase price). Limit 6 per address.

After rebate, THIS DEAL IS QUADRUPLE SCALDING LAVA HOT: make $5 profit each! (maximum $30)

$10 clearance price - $15 rebate = $5 profit

They are in stock in my area, so I'll go see if I can pick them up today. I'm sure glad I didn't pick up a $39.99 pair that I was looking at a few weeks ago.

BTW, this model is not listed on Motorola's site:Motorola current FRS line. So, it probably is an older, discontinued model which makes sense for CompUSA to put on clearance.

With all these FRS radio deals I ended up buying 4 pairs of various brands. Gave away Kenwood (Amazon), and then Panasonic 325 (Amazon), now I am keeping the Motorola 6300 (OD) the Cobra PR1000 (OD). Haven't tried the Cobra yet but the Motorola feels good in your hand and has nice features. They all ended up about $10-$15 each after coupons and rebates.

So if you don't mind waiting, there has to be better deals to come.

Is this advertised in print anywhere? Possible price match to someplace that has it in stock/isn't a 3 hour drive for me?

This would be sweet for my friend's summer place. Whenever they are out on the boat wakeboarding and you're on shore, you can't get their attention to come pick you up. This way I could just radio out and tell them to swing by.

Can the service counter's scanner be different than the checkout register (like Staples) ? I had him scan both the yellow and blue 250 and he said $29.9x WAS the clearance price for both. Still a decent price if the rebate works, I shoulda picked em up anyway, oh well.

We still need a definitive item # or a scan I guess.

The need for a license GRMS or FRS for the consumer isnt necessary.. The FAA isnt going ot go to Lake Tahoe ad arrest the Skiers and boarders whocarry these things around
