Thanks!
I've been dying for more storage.

In case anyone else wants more than 3, newegg let me put in two orders.

I saw this earlier on Slickdeals, and I'm awfully tempted. However, I can't think of what I would actually use it for. My free space / drive capacity is...

930GB/2.7TB
1.17TB/2.7TB
1.22TB/2.7TB
500GB/1.35TB
530GB/1.35TB

I'm tempted to replace the two 1.5TB drives with a 3TB drive, but it's not like they need to be replaced. :\ I'd probably buy it without thinking if I didn't already buy a bunch of stuff on Amazon already (Blu-Rays mostly).

I would buy 6 of these in a heartbeat
But for one minor consideration
I dont buy Seagate
But who knows, post flood new factory, maybe they build quality drives now.

BTW: With Amazon you get that neat little exact size boxed HDD enclosure with the black plastic end caps - "frustration free packaging" as opposed to NE frustration full packaging.

I'm not sure which Barracuda I have; I think it's the 7200.12, but it runs just fine. Although, I think my 3TB drives are both Hitachi, and they also run fine. Ultimately, it isn't the manufacturer that pushes me away from buying one. I'm just being a bit frugal given I'm still not done shopping for Christmas gifts.

If you're really worried, just run multiple tests on your drive. HDD Scan is a nice, free tool along with many others. HDD Scan is nice because it can alert you to long access times, which might be indicative of a looming problem.

I also probably wouldn't be surprised to hear that someone bought multiple drives and had more than one be DOA or go bad. Isn't the rule of RAID to never use drives purchased from the same batch as there's a higher chance that if one is bad, others will be? I've always heard that, but I've never seen any statistics on it.

Newegg's packaging shouldn't be anything difficult either. Sometimes they just put the drives in bubble wrap.

Fine. In for 2x here as well. Let the black-wallet-Friday begin. Also hoping NE has finally learned how to package an OEM drive, as my last one from them was 'not so good'.

That's why I only bought one today and might buy another tomorrow. They just throw multiple drives in the box and they can hit each other.

Which company has the better packaging?

I bought a HDD from Amazon years ago and the packaging was dreadful. Bought a 3TB last week with the same result. Does it hurt to at least crumple up a page of a newspaper? Ridiculous.

I'm just the opposite - do backups so won't need data recovery.
I just want the drive replaced ... it's not like they will "repair" it

2 year warranty plus an extra year buying with a credit card that extends the warranty. That's three years of coverage without an extended warranty. What's a 3TB drive going to cost 3-5 years down the road? Is it worth the cost of the warranty to replace a drive at THAT price, not the purchase price.

Do you think it's going to cost less than 9$ to replace in 5 years ...it's worth it for the prepaid shipping alone.

It's back in stock @ NE, but 1 per customer. Smoking deal! Grabbed this and some 8GB so-dimms that I've had my eye on for a while. My wallet hates me right now.
