I am leaning toward the Abit IC7-G... more like falling at this point, but I am waiting for a couple of reliable reviews first.....

I like the layout of the Gigabyte compared to the others. Although 6 DIMM slots is alittle much, the rest of the features look great. I have onwed a Gigabytes, Abits, and Asus mobos in the past but have always had the best luck with the Gigabyte.

No CSA is a deal killer IMO, but as far as other stuff it's more what they have than what the Asus doesn't. The GB is better laid out with more IDE options, the Abit is just a great overall package with a more rugged voltage regulation and the ability to use ATAPI drives on the SATA ports.

As far as using ATAPI drives on serial ATA, you can buy adaptors for that. Abit is just real nice and ships them with the mobo. A shame Abit lacks CSA or I would whip it right up.

Abit DOES have CSA! And AFAIK none of the PATA/SATA adapters out work on ATAPI devices.

I remember seeing a bunch of adaptors for IDE to serial ATA on pricewatch. Are yo saying those don't work with ATAPI?? Oh an I must have some how missed that Abit was on Intels list of mobos with CSA. Guess it's down to Abit or Gigabyte for me then.

Yes, they only work with hard drives, not CD drives. Abit claims their new adapters work with both, but what they claim and what actually happens might be different. Still, it's a great thing if they work as advertised.

Evan -
Since the AOpen AX4C-MAX is already available from NewEgg, it would be very helpful if you accelerated that review. You can actually BUY a Retail AOpen - which is not yet true for the Gigabyte and Asus 875P boards.

Is anyone considering the Intel version of this board? Are there likely to be any OC options in the bios? ( I know thats not usually customary with Intel boards). Also is the Intel board 6 layer or 4 layer pcb?

I'd like to, but AOpen is awful at getting me boards on time (and I hear that other review web sites have the same problems).

Actually, Newegg has the P4C800 Deluxe AFAIK.

Intel's is 4 layer I believe. Gigabyte's will be six layer. I'm looking hard at the 8knxp (NON-ultra) since it's the ONLY one I've seen with CSA AND 4 IDE connectors so I can give all my components their own connection (no slaves for me)!

FYI, AOPEN sent me a board Fed Ex overnight. Got it this morning (see my initial impressions thread). Getting two more in tomorrow. I gues eval boards take a lower priority over paying customers.

I don't understand why the review was done with pc800 rdram instead of pc1066. Anyone know?

If you are making the transition to an 800MHz FSB CPU with Hyper Threading support, then the 875P migration makes the most logical sense, however upgrading from an 850E to an 875P with anything other than an 800MHz FSB CPU wouldn't be worth it. "

I saw the older 533Mhz Board Keeping up nicely with 875P.
Ive been using an Asus P4T533 based machine for about 6 months now. This IMHO presents a great oppurtunity for those with 850E Based motherboards as the Current Gen Pentium 4 3.06 HT might get get phased out and get replaced with the newer 800Mhz FSB based processors. So cheaper pickings for me with satisfactory performance. I am certainly not going to complain i am happy with my current rig.

This might seem dumb but will (can) VIA release it's own chipset for the new P4's.

Ok Jaeger, I thought I wanted the ASUS board but you almost have me convinced that I want the Gigabyte. Let me ask you outright which should I get? I am a gamer, building my first PC and the price diffrence between the 2 doesn't matter. I thought I wanted the ASUS for all the little extras that come with an ASUS board. Anyone else is welcome to comment, thanks for the input.

Even without the CSA factor I'd go with the Gigabyte. For the reasons I described above, and even littler things like the color coded LED/Power panel on the GB. It's a little thing but it's a very nice touch that makes life easier. I'd still wait to see if reviews uncover any glaring problems, but at this point that's my opinion.

^ Does the MSI have an active cooler on it, or just a plain silver heatsink? I've seen pictures with both.

I want that lit fan.

Like most companies, they have a normal and deluxe model. I'd assume only the deluxe has a fan.

I don't know about that...

Link.

That's not labeled "deluxe." But it's strange because all the pictures I'd seen of the board up till now used a passive cooler.

BTW - good news. The MSI is listed on Pricewatch for $169 (!!) from CompuHQ.

But hopefully this is some indicator that the MSI NEO-FIS2R will be very affordable.

OOS and no longer with a 4/16 ETA. Did they sell out last night again like the 8INXPs did recently?
