It is not that low end. And I think it has similar features to the Asus at the same price.

Looks like the low end GB has the same features as the deluxe Asus for $50 less.

The only feature the Asus has that the GB doesn't is Promise RAID. IMO, that is not worth an extra $60. And the GB DOES use the ICH5R.

Synch settings (1:1)
Fsb CPU DDR
200 3000 400
250 3750 500
266 3990 532

Asynch (5:4)
200 3000 320
250 3750 400
266 3990 426

I guess I need more help with this than I thought. Listed above are some updated numbers. I think they are correct now. If they are, my original question still stands, although the numbers make it a bit closer. If I only plan to overclock to about 250 fsb (only?) DDR400 could be used at 5:4 and faster memory is not needed. Is this correct?

yes this is ok... However, the overall gain of running with asynch mem settings is not settled...

IMO, you would see a real gain for apps that are cpu intensive and have a low (cpu) cache miss ratio...

I was wrong about ICH5, but it still doesn't have the features of the Asus. Still, $199 is a lot for what it has(and the Asus is even worse). Hopefully we'll see some better prices by the time the new Pentiums become available in mass quantities.

That was with stock heatsink/fan for the P4 3.0C processor. Last night I put the Swiftec on the motherboard. Going to swap out the power supply and install my new Antec True controll 550 power supply then try 240 fsb again to measure temps.

FYI, I was not able to get my P4 3.0C to run at 250 FSB. Runs ok at 240 (with mem @ 383).

Hey,

Any idea how long until they put up the other reviews?

And how long do you guys think it will take for the low end gigabyte (which really isn't very low end) to drop in price?

The Gigabyte 8IPE1000 Pro 865p is starting to show up. I can't find this model on Gigabyte's site but here's the link to Essential Computer Inc. I have no idea how reputable they are.

The 8IPE1000 uses the Kinnereth-R for Lan. I believe that is using CSA at 10/100 but I'm not positive. Does anyone know? It's only $149. They also have the 8IK1100. The 8IK1100 doesn't seem to use the ICH5.

Does the CSA buse support a non intel nic ?

Why don't the 875p mobo's have a pci-X buses ? If Intel were serious about the current pci buse being saturated, then why not have a 66mhz 64bit pci buse ?

Regards,
Jose

Yeah, but which low-end boards are you talking about? There seems to be more than one low-end board.

Do any of these boards support Corsair TWINX 512 MB-3200LL memory? I heard that the Asus doesn't, what about the others?

No CSA. "Kinnereth" is just Intel's name for their 10/100 PHY. And EVERY 865/875 board uses the ICH5 or ICH5R

And how many 64 bit PCI cards do you own?

CSA is only available with Intel 82547EI chipset network controllers, every other brand/chipset is PCI based.

I think Intel doesn't do things like pci-x on consumer level boards is because it could cut into their server based chipset board sales.

I think they might have fallen into the same abyss as the 845G reviews that never happened.
