4.2 rumors a total hoax

There *is* a real 4.2 (those are real build tags popping up), but all the stuff that was supposed to be in it... made up.

Anyway, I thought people learned to stop believing anything other than what Google themselves release. This happens every single time. Not news, no loss in credibility as every site posts rumors, move along.

You think so? I think it was pretty damning that the guy that started the rumor tried a ton of different sites and they all bothered to try and fact check and decided not run the story.

They're rumors. By definition they're un-fact checkable.

Not really. Once a tech journalist has been around long enough, they probably know a few different sources from various companies who might be able to give them some further information about the rumor. A lot of sites probably ran it by someone who'd be in a position to know something about the rumors, and most of them probably got a response to the tune of "Sorry, doesn't match up with anything that I know."

However, once someone decides to post it, then all bets are off as everyone wants some of the traffic for themselves. Some sites might even post it along with some additional bits saying that they can't verify it or that their sources haven't been able to confirm the rumor.

All that aside, I'm a little disappointed as some of the rumored additions sounded cool. I don't know exactly what Google is working on, but they should definitely consider some of the rumored features for actual development.

I like rumors, and I accept that most of them probably aren't true. But I really wish bloggers would be more truthful in the validity of their sources.

Like Androidandme.com posting this story and claiming the information was from a "longtime source" when that was now apparently not true.

half these android blogs confuse me. it's like a bunch of idiots writing. somehow i find sifting through apple rumors from 9to5mac or macrumors or even bgr easier than Android rumors...
