I pricematched my drive back to staples today at the Mission Valley store in San Diego with no problem. I got back like 21 dollars and some change.

works for me in Duluth, GA b&m store

total cost around $107 for drive and box of pencils

there are NO drives here left though...

The way my system is setup, I've really got a problem installing the ATA/133. I have Partition Magic 6 and 7 and have a dual boot system with W98 and XP Pro....What I found with the ATA/133 card is that it totally misses my Master Boot record and then goes into suspension and won't boot. When I put the ATA/100 PCI card back into the MOBO, it boots up fine.

Given that I won't benefit that much more from ATA/133, it won't be a huge loss if I can only use the ATA/100, but does anyone have any clues? My BIOS is fine. It's set for booting to SCSI/IDE controller and it's also set for Large Drive Sizes (LBA) so that's not the problem, either.

Anyway, thanks. I realize that this isn't the technical board, but I figured that maybe someone has this same difficulty.

BTW, I do I need to use the ATA/133 driver if the 100 driver is present? Thanks, guys.

I just tried to install the ATA card and it would boot up but wouldn't get past the screen where it recognizes the pci mass storage controller.

Put your HD to the onboard IDE (removed your old ATA if has one)
Install your ATA133
Boot to XP and install your new ATA driver
Shut windows down
Move your HD to your new ATA and
Enjoy your new HD.

Wow. The card supports 4 devices? That's kick ass. Time to get rid of my old ATA-100 5400 RPM hard drive and get some more ATA-133s. But then it can't match my 15,000 Ultra160 HD.

PM'ed my drive today. The girl there was definitely trying to ruin the deal for me. She said she had to refund my other drive and re-ring up the drive at the new price so she needed authorization from a manager every step of the way because of the refund. And then she kept telling everyone that came what she was doing, emphasizing "he used a coupon and now I have to reapply the coupon" and then when she finally re-rang up the drive and added the coupon, she was like "Wait! The coupon you used was for $150 minimum!" and she had to ask a manager and he ok'ed it because he said it was ok because it was a PM.

So after a long wait, I got my drive for 107.69 after tax. =)

Epandable. Ok. Thanks for the suggestion; I must have missed that one. It's going to require some unplugging as I've got four HDs to setup. If you read this, please comment. I'm going to unplug the ATA/100 card and reconfigure it so that my primary HDrive is on the primary onboard IDE of the MOBO? then you suggest I plug in the new ATA/133 and boot up and install the new driver. Shutdown, reattach my other drives. Whew. I guess I would have never tried that series of events. Thanks. Did I get that right?

This drive is pretty noise! Lots of ticking noise and grinding noise when its seeking. I am gonna return mine and get a seagate from frys.

Got my drive from Staples.com this morning. Got a fluid bearing model which is what i was hoping for. Going to install it in a little while once i back up the data from the drive im replacing.

I would only use it to copy from drive to drive, unless your running xp

I'm getting a "not enough drive letters" comment when I try using the Maxtor software. I still don't know how to install it. I have win98se on my old HD and hoping to image the whole thing over to the new maxtor. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong, or what i can do?

What was the number on the outside of the box for those that received fluid bearings?
I went by Staples and on the outside of the box there was the following:

P6L6L4

This was on the white label running perpendicular to the serial number info. It has been
reported that boxes with these numbers on the outside contained fluid bearings. The boxes with
P6J6L4 were BALL bearings.

I had them save me one until tomorrow so I could get my coupon. It said P6L6L4 on the outside.
If it is indeed FLUID I may just get it.
