Ribbon shmibbon - ribbon is crap just like W8 Metro which is why I use Office 2003. Office '03 uses the same file/edit/tools toolbar since the 80s before W95. Besides the familiar layout of the menus and toolbars, another advantage is just how editable and customizable it is -- where you want the toolbars, how big, which toolbars you want to see, even what items you want on them.
Programs that FORCE you to waste screen space, aren't flexible or customizable or have poor layouts should be evaluated as such -- those items can often negate the benefits of the underlying program you are using.
And regardless, WS is IT for media and gaming, WS is the future, this is why WS is hardcoded into HD specs -- ie 1080p is 1920x1080 a WS format, 720p is 1280x720, a WS format, etc. Watching WS material on a FS display is painful, however FS material on a WS display is no big deal. As TV and computers are converging the WS spec was the obvious choice. Even with productivity software it's great as you have a much bigger desktop to work with. If the program was meant to be run in a FS window no biggie, run it in FS and then you can have other apps in the background. Notice how most widgets/metro apps are on the left and right sides of the screen?
I use WS at work and home and even with apps that run native FS it's no big deal as then you have more desktop for companion apps/programs. Less alt-tabbing is great.
