i have a 4g4A+ board with p4 2.0A cpu (400 bus) and 512 DDR 333. I can't find the setting to enable 333 memory, it will only default to DDR 2100 (266 mhz). I tried removing (open) cpu clock select jumper, but this results in no boot. Is this combination possible?

You have to overclock your memory to get 333 or higher on the 4G4A+.I bought the P4B533 and have to do the same thing. The P4B533-V and some other boards will run your memory at 333 without overclocking it.I'm new at O/Cing so someone else can help you out or run a search and check out some posts.

Try this:

Remove JP1 (All open)
Set FSB to 133
This will allow you to select DDR333 (Auto) setting for memory in the BIOS.

Thanks,

p4spooky,

that makes sense, but if i remove the jumper (open), system won't boot. it is set at auto (cpu select), which is 100. do I have to o'clk the fsb to get the proper memory speed? I don't want to fry the cpu, I'm only using stock heatsink and fan (p4). any more info would be greatly appreciated.

I have heard that 2.0A is not a very good overclocker.

I have a 1.6A on this board running at 2.5Ghz (156FSB) and memory at (156/4*5)*2=DDR390. Vcore at 1.6V and Vmem at 2.8 Corsair XMS-3200. I was unable to go beyond 144FSB with JP1 shorting pins 1&2. Removed it, got the 4:5 divider and had better luck overclocking.

You may want to increase FSB in small steps and keeping memory at 1:1 until you have hit the overclocking limit on the processor.
To summerize from personal experience:

1. Better chance of overclock with JP1 open
2. Worst chance of overclock with JP1 (pins 2&3 shorted)
3. Slightly better chance with JP1 (pins 1&2 shorted) - much lower FSB than option-1.

Memory on second bank.

Lastride: Sorry I don't have the P4B533 so I don't know.
Hope this helps.

cj420: there are 2 ways to get your RAM to DDR333 (2x166MHz) with a 2.0a CPU (20x100MHz FSB)...

1) on the 100MHz FSB setting, ie jumper on: hit 125MHz FSB (x20=2500MHz)with the RAM multipler at 3:4 -> 166MHz/DDR333
2) on the 133MHz FSB setting, ie jumper off: hit 133MHz FSB (x20=2660MHz)with the RAM multipler at 4:5 -> 166MHz/DDR333

thus, at a minimum, your CPU has to be able to hit 2500MHz. try the 100MHz FSB setting and work up to 125MHz+, cause that's the magic (minimum) number for you...

tips on overclocking:
1) RAM in slot 2 (middle)
2) AGP/PCI bus locked at 66/33
3) up to ~1.75 CPUv (+0.25v)

and P4spooky is definitely right: the "2.0A is not a very good overclocker. "
