< these batteries are much cheaper from Hong Kong than Sears/Kmart >

< there are some lurkers on this forum from the CandelPowerForum (CPF)
who know how to mod these lights for TWICE the output . But they
spend $100s on lights and can't be bothered with cheapies like this one >

home deopt has a ten pack of 6 led lights for only $10, they have a rubbery exterior but no "china mothboll smell". i think i prefer these over the metal ones, if you drop them they dont hit as hard. the aluminums sometimes flicker after you drop them. the home depot ones are brinkman brand. i highly recommend them they are better than the dollar tree or 99cent only ones. ive use five so far and only one flashlight had a single "dead pixel"

Nice deal, in for 2. That's about the same price as a bare luxeon 3w led. Any recommendations on a charger for these batteries?

So, with this and the cow flashlight thread... has anyone ever received stuff from Focalprice yet?

Also, any flashlight like this one except with a clicky instead of twist switch?

I've bought stuff from focalprice before with no problems. About like ordering from dealextreme, and about the same shipping time.

"What do people use to recharge these batteries?"

Any cell-phone charger from the 99cent store , strip
the ends & use a rubberband to keep contact .

Check grandpa's garage for a walwart 3.5-5.0 V ,
less than 400MA .

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.22576
$4 delivered , but you need to find a screw/bolt or nut to
fill the gap to make contact with the smaller CR123 batts.

===> NO CLICKY SWITCH , but , I twist ON , then unscrew
1/2 turn , then thumb pressure on the base acts as a momentary
switch ...

Are those LIPO batteries? If so, I would recommend to anyone buying them to read up on how to care for them.

I think the RCR123A are LiIon. Recommended to get batteries with protection circuitry, especially if rolling your own charger or using a cheap one. Don't want any meltdowns or explosions.

And has a luxeon led vs a cree. But at 4bux who cares right?

Right.

I'm passing on this deal because I have way too many LED flashlights, and another one coming (from DealExtreme, Ultrafire stainless 1xAA with Cree Q5 with 5-modes).

So far my favorite EDC is an LED Lenser with some Luxeon emitter that I picked up from Costco for $12 or so. It is 1xAA and the light is really white, plus it has a really nice semi-recessed clicky switch on the tail. Basically it is small, sufficiently bright and won't turn on by itself in my pocket, yet will turn on every time <= some of the cheap Chinaplex flashlights have crappy/fiddly switches.

I already have a Cree Q5, a 2xAA single mode. It is REALLY bright. I also have several other small LED flashlights with indeterminate brand emitters. I think I'm borderline junkie at this point.

You are a junkie!

I purchased a dual cree flashlight pack at costco for 15bux. Has 3 modes, low, high, and strobe. I also got a deal extreme light that I got which has only 1 AA battery with a cree bulb, the light is pretty blinding.

I've always wondered if a bear were to atk me while camping and I flash one of these lights into their eyes would they stop or not? Only one way to find out.

Even if the bear doesn't stop, you can run away at a 90° angle from its attack while it is blinded. Of course bears can also smell and hear...

Yeah CPF use to be pretty obscure back in the day, but a lot of people (especially since the birth of CREE) now know about them, and I'm definitely into flashlights myself... but no where as near as into them to the point of modding them.

In any case thanks for the link! I'm all about AAA for EDC lights now myself, but this looks pretty good!

Gotta love the picture of the generic box, as if it is a selling point. Guess it is better than just a bag. I think I will bit for a few.

LOL, I've gotten flashlights from DX both ways, in just a plastic sleeve/bag, and in a form-fitting white box made of some really soft paperboard.

I thought you were joking about the candle power forum. There are really people out there who spend exorbitant amounts of money to make their flashlights brighter. That is honestly more surprising and disturbing than goatse.

Uh, you have a strange definition of "disturbing."

Really though, flashlights are a somewhat cheap and safe geek-hobby to have. Certainly cheaper and safer (no AC power input) than computers, and a hell of a lot cheaper/safer than cars.
