Ok, it may not be a really hot deal, but its a good deal none the less.

Safeway's current ad has a deal where you get $10 of your total purchase if you buy 6 participating items. There are about 10 items to choose from, two being Ragu sauces and Skippy peanut butter. Ragu is on sale for $1.75 each and Skippy is $3.39 each (buy one get one free). So the deal is :

$ 7.00 for 4 Ragu pasta sauces
$ 6.78 for 2 Skippy peanut butters
-$ 3.39 (buy one get one free on the Skippy)
-$10.00 for buying 6 participating items
-----------
$00.39 total

Must have and use a Safeway club card.
Sale ends Tuesday 12 midnight.
This is available at all San Francisco bay area Safeway stores.

Presumably they believe people will purchase other things while at the store.

Let us know if they actually let you buy JUST these items. I would think they will be losing money each time someone does this.

No Safeway's here in NY so can't try it. Although I've lived in both the bay area and in central Texas (where they also have Safeway's.)

I wouldn't feel too sorry for them, the rest of the items in the store are marked up like you wouldn't even believe, they are not losing money, rather, it's a calculated ploy to get more of yours. I always take advantage of Fry's deals here in Vegas and can't remember ever buying something there that wasn't an advertised killer deal. The markup on alot of the crap they sell would give you a heart attack. No, I never, ever think twice about taking advantage of any sale because of the poor store. I did have a girl at Fry's say "I see your getting all the on sale items....". I said "yuppers" with a great big smile. She couldn't have cared less.........

You can go to the Safeway site and enter your zip code for the local weekly specials. It will bring up a list of local stores. Click on one and it will display the weekly specials ad for that store. Mine shows this deal on page 4 of the paper ad--pages 7-8 of the online ad, because the online ads split the paper ad into two sheets.

*sigh* no Safeway near me...
A few years ago, they had a $25 coupon if you purchased 10 qualifying Betty Crocker items.
I figured out the next day that if I used the $25 coupon on the 10 items, I'd get another coupon..
then another... then another...

I think we're down to our last 10 boxes of various hamburger helper types of things... And there might be 1 or 2 cake mixes left. It worked out to about the same price - under a dollar for 10 items.

I checked the link. At my store, Skippy is 2 for $3. So before tax this is $0.00, unless they dropped the price on the Skippy so this deal wouldn't work.

Great deal. Works for Tom Thumb in DFW.

Ragu pasta sauce x 4 @ 2 for $3.00 = $6.00
Skippy peanut butter x 2 @ $1.69ea.= $3.38
$9.38

Even if you don't like the stuff, make two or 3 trips and donate some to your local food bank!

I can verify that you can just buy these items. I did it. I also work at Safeway.
Funny thing is I wasn't familiar with the deal, even though it was advertised and I get a copy of the ad beforehand so I can be aware of the up-coming sale. It wasn't until a customer brought it to my attention.
That one customer is the only one to take advantage of the deal all week.

Isn't it another unilever deal? I am pretty certain it will be reimbursed by the manufacturer, just like the Rotund Billfold deal on Unilever products at Rite-Aid (not too late, that deal is pretty good as well).

yeah it's a unilever deal. and on the ad there is no asterisk to it saying "buy 6 unilever products and get $10 back" so technically you could just buy 6 of those products and get $10 back.

Anyone try buying 6 peanut butters and getting a dollar back yet? You could make a buck a trip. The ad says one per household and the first time It came off automatically and the second time I was using 4 sauces and 2 peanut butters and it came to 9.99, and the girl had to take it off manually, the stores shelves are fully stocked with the ragu and have an extra end cap and I was the only person I saw do it, and this has been going on all week I guess, not too many people read the ads I guess, anyway, I would try for a few more if anyone knows if the 9.99 total or the one per household on the card is the trick to getting more than one to ring up. I love the garden vegetable ragu.
