1. computers are much, much better now. i haven't assigned an IRQ in ages (since i stopped using soundblaster ) and there's nothing to gain by shutting off dozens of windows services.

2. the industry has stabilized, and there aren't as many 100% new products or technologies released as there used to be. i remember when anandtech.com was posting articles rapid-fire, because there was always a new chipset, or new connector, or something. now, not too much.

Actually, Toms is one of the few sites that has a fairly stable line. It gets about 2/3 as many visitors as newegg :Q

forums results are included in the main site results. either way, tom's is kicking ass in terms of quantity of views, and quantity and quality of main site content. i'm glad to see they no longer suck donkey ass, although they are several generations removed from the original tom's i liked. i'm surprised a big corporate buyout managed to turn out a decent website. ZD, you will always suck.

I just think there is more to do on the internet so sites aren't getting the devoted attention they used to. Also some people might have rediscovered that there are things to do outside of the computer room.
