Yes. Had the cops not been stupidly working on their laptops, they would have seen the guy and gunned him down easily. Thank you Zebo, for your insights. You should be in charge of training cops on proper procedures while seated in a coffee shop. You could save lives with your knowledge, Zebo. Everyone knows this.

I lost a good friend because he went to work without his head in the game. Doesn't always mean that you will always come out on top, but you are sure gonna lose if you don't have your shit together all the time.

Couple other things besides burring face in laptops and 4 cops sitting by front door is Cops should not sit in group like that. Two at most at same table - other group needs to sit at a distance as it's harder to target two locations. I am sure the tape will be used to educate in future.

I was reading the comments at the Tribune and it seems the department had been successful at curtailing crime and gang activity in the area over the last few years. A couple of locals posted that they felt safer lately due to the department's efforts.

I was also listening to Ed Troyer the department spokesman, and apparently one of the officers struggled with the gunman as far as the door, where he was fatally wounded.
One of the officers got off some rounds and the suspect may be wounded as well.
The fire department has set up a ladder truck with a flag to honor these three men and one woman as they remove the bodies from the scene. I want to go stand by and honor them but we've also been warned to stay away.

I can understand a store owner chasing guys out with his shotgun. I can understand the threat of everyone around carrying a weapon preventing robberies in the first place. But when a crime is in progress within confined public places, and multiple people have guns, there is not likely a happy ending. Who are these people making decisions to shoot? We generally don't trust people around us, but we should allow them to start shooting around? It wasn't even life or death here for the other patrons. I don't know if I watch too much tv, but isn't there a reason undercover/off-duty cops wait until the suspects are isolated?

Well with all the regulations I'm sure they're under, they can't do all the stuff they did back in the day. If a cop tries to take down someone and that person hurts themselves i any way, breaks a finger or even scrape themselves, department is sued for millions. It's all these people suing for every little thing that cops have had to change the way they do things.

I'd be more apt to blame Washington state at this point. He has 8 felonies here and they had him in custody and released him even though he was wanted in AR.

They are reporting at least one cop had fired back and the suspect had been wrestled all the way out the door before being killing the officer.
