Theres a bunch of 1kw+ power supplies, but those cost a fortune too.

This just goes to prove how disconnected the industry is from the consumer anymore. 4 way sli, yeah I got that email saw the picture and the first thing I thought of was how in the hell are the top three cards going to get adequate cooling. Next was how much will this raise my power bill. Then came the why in the world would I need 4 separate video cards in my system when I get more satisfaction plugging in my $200 Xbox on my 50" plasma and get flawless play on live with all my friends plus all the other benefits that xbox live brings.

I remember back when voodoo made the first rendition of sli way back in the day and that was a big deal because nothing could touch the graphics quality at the time. Then nvidia came along with a new chipset the geforce promising us more than 60 fps for smooth 3d graphices on a single core.

Honestly this has gotten out of hand and I don't think the PC gaming market is on the rise like it was a few years ago. There just is not anything all that exciting to play anymore on the pc that can't be played on a console for far less money. You can partly blame this stall on microsoft for not releasing directx updates to xp forcing people to buy into Vista if they wanted the latest. People are still holding on to xp as it still works very well and is stable.

Hmm I wonder if you can put it that stuff to use - a lot of folks in quant finance like myself use the programmable nvidia hardware to do super-fast floating point math. (think high frequency trading etc). I'm not so sure that there's anything I can parallelize 4 ways though or that you'd need to do that to begin with.
