For those of you who went to the MS Hero's Happen Here events you should already have this (Infrastructure event at least) but I thought I would pass along.

I have not tried but seems credible based on presenter and place.

If my memory serves, for the download-only membership, that would ~$209 for 10 non-expiring copies (license codes) of Windows Server 2008, 10 copies of Windows Vista Ultimate (includes 64 bit), 10 copies of Office Ultimate, etc.

Sounds like a good deal. In fact, If you run a bunch of PC's, it's a good deal at full price.
I wonder why "peeps" are not all over it.

It's more than the last similar deal posted here, but does not have the "student" requirement, like that one did. You should be an IT professional, though.

I know I see all these people buying copies of Vista for 150-200 a pop and I wonder why they just dont do this. I don't exactly pay for everything I use but I figure this is a good way to stay semi legal. TechNet plus direct is a great deal even at full price.

Thanks for posting this, seems like a very good deal. I got two of the emails yesterday but didn't notice this.

If only they would include Windows XP I'd hop on it.

If the deal is like above posts say it is, $209 for 10 copies of server 2008, 10 copies of Vista and 10 copies of Office, with non expiring licenses then I'm seriously considering it since it seems like exactly what I need.

Two questions:
1. How long does the code last?
2. Which versions of 2008 server are included? Standard of Enterprise?

They have XP in the download list - did you see some place where they indicate it isn't included?

That depends of course on what you need it for and what you mean by "licenses" - these are "evaluation" licenses that (if you care about following the license terms) are intended for internal, non-production use only. (MS's statement is:

You may use the evaluation software only to evaluate it. You may not use it in a live operating, in a staging environment or with data that has not been sufficiently backed up.
and that you can transfer the SW to someone else only by transfering the entire Technet subscription and retaining no copies of anything...)

Mmmm... what is considered evaluation though? I do not intend to use them in a "production" environment. I just need those for continuing (perpetual) personal use. Vista and office for personal computer and Server 2008 for fileserver I want to build.

Or would that not be OK with MS? Can they revoke those licenses remotely?

I jumped on the $99 deal they had for this for students a few months back. FWIW, it is well worth it at $209.

You can download the following versions of Server 2008:

Windows Server 2008 Datacenter, Enterprise and Standard (x64) - DVD (English)
Windows Server 2008 Datacenter, Enterprise and Standard (x86) - DVD (English)
Windows Server 2008 for Itanium-based Systems (ia64) - DVD (English)
Windows Server 2008 Datacenter, Enterprise and Standard without Hyper-V (x64) - DVD Windows Server 2008 Datacenter, Enterprise and Standard without Hyper-V (x86) - DVD Windows SDK for Windows Server 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5 (x86, x64, ia64) - DVD
WDK for Windows Server 2008 (x86, x64, ia64) - DVD (English)
Windows AIK for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (x86, x64, ia64) - DVD (English)
Windows Web Server 2008 (x64) - DVD (English)
Windows Web Server 2008 (x86) - DVD (English)

Plus all Vista versions for both x86 and x64 and all Office flavors, Exchange Server, Vizio etc. Basically everything MS except for WHS.

You download ISO's and just use Nero or the like to burn to DVD. I max out my 30Mbps connection so downloads are very fast. Well worth it IMO.

At $209 it's well worth it, I'm glad I jumped in for the $99 deal a few months back.

You basically get every modern Microsoft OS besides Windows 2000 and Home Server.

Also comes with a lot of Microsoft's other software. I do wish it hadVisual Studio though.

I was just looking at getting a subscription today and when I saw this thread that clinched it. The code is valid. Sales tax was added though.

Good deal, but it's against the license terms to use any of the products in a production environment. They're for evaluation only, like if your boss asks you to evaluate whether your company should migrate to Windows Server 2008, you could use the license to try it out. If you decide to use it in production, you have to purchase a production license.

No, you do not. You just lose access to download additional software.

Okay what about if I didn't have say Vista Ultimate installed prior to the subscription from expiring. Would I still be able to install the OS or reinstall one of my current PC's?

any idea when this expires? Would love to buy this next month, not this month.

This would definitely come in handy for me!

and why I say next month is because I still have to pay uncle sam for 07 taxes!
