I placed my 1st order with DealExtreme on 12-08.
On 12-18 I got a shipping confirmation email from them with a tracking number.
I checked the tracking information through the DealExtreme site and get forwarded to the Hongkong Post that has the package listed as an "Outward Registered Letter" and that the item "left Hong Kong for its destination on 23-Dec-2009".

* Order placed 12-08
* Shipping confirmation email arrived 12-18
* Hongkong Post indicates package shipped on 12-23

I'm not getting that warm fuzzy feeling about this order. :\ It looks like I'm not alone.

I've made several orders with them, and it does take a while to get, but i've never had any problems except once. The sent me the wrong thing, I emailed them with a picture and sku of what I recieved and the told me to keep it and sent me the right item. Not really a problem.

I've ordered similar cheap, no shipping $$ items from Ebay every now and then. They definately take the slow boat.. but do eventually arrive and I've always gotten working product so far. MY take, if you are not in a hurry and it works as advertised when it arrives... for $5 how can ya go wrong.

I've purchased from DealExtreme MANY times. Sometimes delivery time is a month or longer but everything i've ordered so far has arrived fine.

IMHO, as far as that SATA to IDE converter goes... Well, it works OK but it's not something I'd use on a consistent basis. Maybe for a one time file transfer in an emergency but it would be very suspect to me for long term use.

Thanks for the link. I ordered one and also one of their:

"PC Motherboard Repair/Troubleshoot Boot-Failure Diagnostic PCI Card"

for an additional $2.57. Shipping alone must cost as much as the $7.34 total for the order.

dealextreme is a great online vendor with great prices but yeah, it always takes a minimum of 2 weeks to get stuff but usually in the 3 week range. Don't forget its the holidays so you should tack a week onto that.

I'm not getting that warm fuzzy feeling about this order. :\

Don't sweat it. I think the fastest I've ever received anything from Dealextreme has been around 3 weeks, and that wasn't during the holiday consumerism time. They are definately legit and seem to try to keep customers happy.

Just expect stuff to take a while to get to you (especially one ordered in December) and don't expect it to be highest quality. Do expect to get your stuff and get it for cheap.

They're great for the odd item that just needs to be cheap. For instance I recently bought a 10-pack of keychain LED lights from them for around $4.30 shipped for all 10. Gave them out to all my co-workers just for the heck of it. I also picked up a flashlight (2xAA, Cree Q5 LED) that had me a bit worried because it was one of the most expensive single items I've ever purchased from them at $19. Turned out great! Brightest damn flashlight I've ever owned, and I've owned a LOT of LED flashlights. Of course on the same order I bought two cheaper LED flashlights (around $5 each) and they had definate QC issues. One was visibly dimmer than the other and the brighter one was missing the wrist strap. Also, the dimmer one was too tight - screw it together all the way and the rotating switch wouldn't work. The brigher one also has a problem with sometimes being on when you thought you turned it off, so you'll pull it out of your pocket or desk drawer and it was on or has a dead battery.

Ah well. Buying stuff from them is like buying toys from gumball machines. ^_^ Cheap, iffy quality and you're not quite sure what you're gonna get, but you still have fun.

I mainly ordered tech type stuff, like various HD adapters.
Items that you need from time to time working on laptop or desktop PC's.
Heck I even ordered an full IDE to 1.8" drive adapter... You never know.

Just received an e-mail saying my order had been shipped -- only three days after I placed the order! Now it is just wait and see.

The reviews at Meritline of the
"PC Motherboard Repair/Troubleshoot Boot-Failure Diagnostic PCI Card"
are overall surprisingly good.

Do some tracking and see what's going on with it.

I received part of my order from 12-08.
These guys around here love DealExtreme so much, I'm going to trust that the rest of my order will show up some day.

Received both items I ordered - in two separate mailings. Quality looks just fine -- none of the poor soldering commented on elsewhere. The IDE/SATA adapter has no data sheet, but works as it should -- and is self explanatory to use. I am a little disappointed that a high speed Western Digital 640AS that benchmarks at 95.5 MB/sec in HDTach when plugged into a motherboard SATA connector benchmarks at only 55 MB/sec through this adapter. I will keep the adapter to use on an archive drive when I run out of IDE drives for that purpose.

I don't see how they can sell and ship anything for the price they do.

But they are a reliable source for very low cost items.

I purchased a similar adapter off Ebay and also noticed a slowdown.

I had a 250GB that was added to my WHS storage array. The drive with adapter couldn't even keep up with transfers over my 1.0 Gbps wired network (around 20-25 MB/s max). The drive is still running with the adapter, but it has been reassigned as a backup drive only.
