I have a work issued Dell laptop E7470. I5 with 8gb of ram. 128gb SSD, 1080p screen. 6-9 hours of real work battery life. Honestly, this is exactly what I would like, I offered worked to sell me one but they can't because they are all on leases.

What is out there with similar specs at the $400 range? eBay currently has the E7470 in a good spec in the $500ish. The E7250 which is one year older is $300-400 pending the specs. Youtube has this laptop completely easy to upgrade HD and RAM to 16gb. The battery is a quick swap. My work unit does not, you need to remove the panel.

I'm not stuck on the dell platform, in a way I feel weird buying something similar to my work unit to use for personal. I really want a used XPS 13 but I don't see them in $400. Does anyone have a suggestion on other laptops? Obviously, I'm 100% open to used laptops and I don't mind upgrading CPU RAM down the road.

For $100 more, Walmart had their Overpowered series for $499. It comes with an i5 8300H chip, Nvidia 1050 GPU and 8 GB ram (one stick for single channel) but they are currently sold out. the battery was pretty small (probably 4-5 hours)...the next model up for $799 which has a 1060 GPU and 144 mhz screen has been going in and out of stock this week (this was probably the best laptop deal in recent years) so maybe it could happen with the i5 model...if you are interested in this one, you might periodically check to see if it comes back in stock (you might try using a deal site and set an alert as it will go pretty quick if it does came back in stock).

This laptop is built using a tongfang chasis which many customized laptop building sites use. There is a really good thread about this laptop on notebookreview.com. the thread is over 330 pages long now...an added bonus of this laptop is even though it has a 15.6" screen, it has the foot print of a 14" laptop...it also has a pretty minimal bezel...

I did forget to mention my usage for my personal laptop.

Just daily driver basics. No gaming at all really.

While the specs might be solid, not sure how I feel about a gaming laptop with the rgb keyboard. Looks sold out, so I might not be able to get my hands on it.

The laptop is definitely overkill but for the price it is a heckuva of a deal. The keyboard click is pretty noticeable as well (it is a mechanical keyboard) so that might have been an issue as well.

Good luck in your search....

on eBay there are always a bunch of throwaways on these Dells or ThinkPads

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Latit...h=item260f373e47:g:oXoAAOSw~SdbaN1h:rk:2:pf:0

Dell Latitude E7250 i7 5600U 2.60GHz /16GB /512GB
  • 12.5" Widescreen LED (Native Resolution 1366x768)
  • 512GB SSD
  • Bluetooth
  • Ethernet
  • Wireless
  • Webcam
  • 3 Usb ports
  • Battery is "Excellent' health according to the Dell Bios
  • Compatible AC Adapter Included ( May Be Generic )
  • No OS Installed , NO Disc, NO COA KEY included.
  • Meaning, there is NO Windows, Linux, DOS, MAC OS or any other type of Operating System installed. It's Your Responsibility to install your own OS! There will be a restock fee on any returns pertaining to the lack of an Operating System installed.
$300 shipped only?

-OR-

ThinkPad t460s for $400 shipped on eBay.

The ThinkPads are slightly more reliable than the Dells in my opinion, because of the QA testing involved from Lenovo, it's more rigorous on the refurb units, with much better quality control. I've seen more Dell units fail under "refurb" than compared to the Lenovos.
But I've also seen a few ThinkPad Yoga X1 refurb (i5 models) units need software maintenance after a few months of operation, usually a clean Win10 wipe does it.
But it could go both ways for Dell or Lenovo, regardless of the seller.

Wow, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD, but no OS, for $300 shipped? Not too shabby. I've got some (used/seller refurbished) Lenovo B50-45 A6-6310, 8GB (2x4GB DDR3L-1600), 512GB SATA6G SSD laptops for $380 in my FS/FT thread, PM me if interested. (Those are true quad-cores, Puma / Puma+ cores, some Turbo, I think to 2.4Ghz. Fairly speedy, though possibly not as snappy as an Intel "Core"-based laptop.)

You can find similar on ebay if you search for "AMD laptop", and look through the listings, for around $300-400, with a 500GB or 1TB 5400RPM HDD, then you need to install an SSD and re-install or transfer the OS.

wish the overpowered ones are ever in stock. I accidentally bought a dell inspiron 5000 17" . 550$ 8550u 256m.2+2tb 16gb r530. I seriously didnt mean to click the buy it now i clicked the back arrow (was checking if tax and shipping included). Most likely will gift it since i really wanted a mx150 and never really use 17" laptops before.
