HWUB compares 4070 to 4070 Ti.

Of the two he thinks the increased price isn't worth it to get the 4070 Ti, and the 7900 XT is a better buy at that price range.

For $600 4070, is the best option currently available, or wait to see what AMD has when 7800 XT comes out.

No word about the 6950 XT at that price?
He covers it in the conclusion as a potential option. States that stock is drying up down under, and it's completely OOS at some retailers there. Also, it's an outgoing product. And that AMD's new entry at the price level is still MIA.

I think it is interesting that he and Tim have come around to Nvidia's desired change in editorial direction. Not because they sold out, but because tech like DLSS has matured to the point that both of them are onboard with it. He suggests upscaling a fair number of times.

6950 XT was never that cheap in most of the world. and even at same $599 it's not really clear winner vs the 4070. I would need a new case because not a single 6950 xt would fit it, while 4070s would fit. PSU is similar, 700 w. I could risk it with a 6950xt but it would sure work with a 4070. And in the same regard, heat. No AC here and nowadays with climate change 90-100 F aren't rare anymore.

It is clearly better in raster, no question.

Even raster doesn't exist in a vacuum. It's pulling about 200 more watts to achieve about 15% more raster performance, and that is a questionable tradeoff right there for many people, before you even get to other 4070 advantages.

3090 Ti also being questionable, doesn't somehow make the 6950 XT, less so.
And yet the market decided in favor of the 3090TI, remember when you valued market decisions above the more calculated observations of the forum? The 3090 Ti was decidedly the more sought after card even for raster performance only.

I'm not even disputing your argument, I happen to agree with you on the fact that 150-200W of heat are not worth 10-15% performance. It's just that you need to decide if you want to have your cake or eat it: you either bow to market decision or join the chorus of armchair experts.

Indeed, the UK for example doesn't get good pricing on most cards, the 6950XT is not a good value proposition compared to the 4070. 4070 £550, 4070 TI £790, 6800 £490, 6800XT £550, 6950XT £660 & 7900XT £820. That is how the market sits right now in the UK, bear in mind the 6950XT with typical gaming usage costs an extra £140 to run over a year compared to the 4070.

Why would you buy the 4060Ti /w 16GB in July when you can buy the 4070 /w Diablo IV today?!

Did it? Doesn't look that way to me.

I remember the 3090 Ti being lambasted in reviews. Let me check what HWUB said:

Also, if I check Steam HW survey, 3090 Ti does NOT appear yet, but 3090 does, and even 4090 is already there.

So, I don't see any market acceptance here. Reviewers didn't like it, it didn't sell well enough to make Steams survey (rare for a NVidia card). Heck even the universally derided RTX 4080, during this economic downturn, sold enough to make the survey already.

Exactly, but.

This is easy. The Steam survey defenders will say, "obviously, few people buy AMD cards to game on."

Now why is this so contentious. /s
I am laughing at all of the astroturfers. We now have incontrovertible evidence the Steam survey is worthless garbage. The number one language of simple Chinese and 3060 skyrocketing to the top all turned out to be nonsense. Well, worse nonsense than how the data is usually represented. It demonstrates the shenanigans in the way the data is collected, just as I and others hypothesized.

There is now ample evidence it is a broken system. I knew this wasn't a one off, and here we are with it getting the spotlight shone on it. <Mike Tyson> Perfect timing! </> I shall studiously ignore anyone that references it to support their position. It's broken and thus should carry no weight.

My first WTF came when they "revamped the survey" to better reflect VR headsets. Not like they had a horse in the race or something.

Daniel-san compared it vs the 3080 12GB. 4070 is impressive in performance per watt. The 3080 is often using almost twice the power. Speaking for myself, that's a massive advantage. Cool and quiet are at the top of my checklist for parts shopping. One power connector regardless of which one, is appealing to me as well.

They fixed the Chinese gaming cafe problem after it was discovered. No one said it was perfect, but other then one fixed bug you haven't shown why it's so broken. Every single anti steam survey thread ends up with the same "well it never surveys me" echo chamber and no quantifiable proof of anything. There is however proof of Nvidia's sales in things like JPR sales information.

Sorry but all the steam hate just sounds like a lot of empty rage, mostly based around forum users wanting AMD gpu's to be more popular then they actually are.
