First official performance leak. A perfect opportunity to highlight the fraud pushed by nVidia with DLSS.

Performance looks fantastic, right? Look again, at the smallprint - 4070 is using frame generation.

I said exactly this would happen as soon as DLSS 3.0 was announced. 2560x1440 is a lie given it's actually ~1080p due to legacy DLSS. Since nVidia got away with it, the next step is frame interpolation lies. It's "faster", yo!

Adjusting for frame generation (i.e. halve the 4070's bars), it's actually barely faster than the 3080 in MFS, and slower in Warhammer 40K. All this from a card that will likely cost more.

Customers not seeing the smallprint and/or not understanding DLSS are having systematic fraud perpetuated on them.

According to the leaks, 4060Ti is 128bit card so 8 or 16GB. But who needs more than 8 when you have better RT and DLSS3 - that's how consumers think so it's 8.

I think Nvidia looks at the upcoming games in 2023 and decide. I mean they said themselves that they do. If the card will not tank with 8GB in it's dedicated resolution (probably 1440p), then they give it 8GB. If it tanks at the end of 2023, in 2024 they will refresh with 16GB.

It'll be 8. 16 would require double sided memory. They aren't doing that. AMD only did double sided with the 6500 XT because the intention was to sell to miners.

Maybe at some point 4 GB chips will become available.

Doesn't RT use additional VRAM though? Unless you're restricting yourself to 1080p, 8 GB is just not going to cut it.

It would also make the 12 GB 4070 Ti look ridiculous. Then again, the 3060 had more VRAM than the 3080, so maybe they don't care.

Buying $500+ cards with 8 GB of vram just seems really gross at this point, but I suppose I can save that vitriol for that seemingly inevitable thread.

$800-$1k for a 12GB card is already bad enough, imo, but I think that since the 3080Ti was 12GB and in that range it seems almost, sortable reasonable that the at least one more generation of card providing that rough level of performance would have the same framebuffer.

People paying for 10GB/12GB at 3080 level. Saddest thing ever. I made the same mistake and promptly ditched the 3080 10GB when I saw a benchmark where it ran out of VRAM and the 3060 12GB scored more fps. I think it was an RT benchmark, probably Spiderman.

All use the 12 pin or technically 16 pin (12 power + 4 sensing)

As I noted elsewhere, they were originally going to release this back in November before they "unlaunched" it, so they have extra month or so of stock build up.

No scalper worries.

I just checked Newegg and they just knocked a few bucks off the MSI cards today.

The cheapest card in stock was an MSI card for $839, it's now $10 off for $829.

Im hoping in a month or two it is reduced by 200-300 bucks. IMO this is a 599 card at most, more like a 499 card.

I feel bad for anybody that comes into this thread looking for a conversion on the reviews of the 4070Tie. It has been completely derailed to the point that it should just be locked at this point.

Is there much to talk about with this card? It's like a 3090 that consumes less power and has less but probably enough VRAM to age okayish for a sky high price for this performance tier.
