Looks like a pretty good deal.

Rebates go to Iomega. Compusa has been getting a lot of these double rebates lately tho.. why cant they just combine it and just make it one $60 MIR instead of 2 $30 rebates...

Actaully, this drive do come with some useful software. 2003 Ghost, and Iomega Auto backup.

Can you take the hard drive out of the shell and replace it with another one?

heh, anyone know what brand drive is inside? 7200rpm or 5400rpm?

and from reading the compusa info, it seems like it's a usb2.0/firewire drive? is this correct? both interfaces?

I've had the usb 2 version for about a month now and it's great. Inside my unit is a Seagate st340810a 5400 rpm hd. I haven't tried to crack this sucker open nor do i plan to!

It is only usb OR firewire, not both. in order to use the usb one as a firewire, you need to buy a converter or something.

I'm also curious about this...says all you need for firewire is a cable. Well do they mean just a standard 6 pin firewire cable, or some kind of special adapter I'd have to buy???

It is a $50 rebate and a $20, so I think you would want one $70

Just so you guys know...I got this drive about a month ago at Circuit City. It had the same $50 MIR through Iomega. I got the rebate back in 3 weeks!!! Super fast turn around time.

It appears that it is a $60 firewire cable with a special adapter at one end.

Go to Iomega's website and search for part# 32505 (or search for 32391, which is the drive, and then click on the accessories link) Iomega's website is sold out of the firewire adapters, BTW I don't know who else might carry them or how much they might cost elsewhere.

Here's a link that may or may not work for you. Scroll down or do a ctrl+f and search the page for 32505

Its a good price compare to what I paid for. 300plus bucks for 2 when it first came out. I tried it out for a month, didnt like it, and promptly returned it for FULL refund.

I had trouble getting it to work with a compaq laptop(1200presario) with a pcmcia usb2,0 card.(That was like 8 or more months ago.)

So if they improved on drivers and such then its one heck of a sweet deal.

The drive is slim and very portable. But if given a chance I would prefer buying the toshiba 40 GB from dell as a upgrade.(one less thing to carry)

Tot, I find your post interesting as I also have a Compaq Presario 1200 (1201z to be exact) and it worked fine.

However, I didn't try it with a pcmcia USB 2.0 card. Were you just trying to use it in windows or with ghost? Also what OS?

I'm using XP and the builtin usb 1.1 and it works great.
