Actually, if you'll take time to read the online reviews you'll find that some of the 5400rpm drives outperform some of the 7200rpm drives. It's not simply a matter of rotationl speed, but also areal density (platter density) and the mechanism that moves the read/write heads.

Regarding 5400 vs 7200.. check out the PCWorld (for what their worth) review of large HDs. They found the Maxtor king-of-the-hill for 5400 and 7200. They mentioned that the Maxtor 5400 was faster than many of the 7200 drives. I think this is a pretty warm, maybe not scorching hot (ie Iomega CDRW) deal.

I'm just happy he posted a hot deal for a hard drive! It's been ages since anyone's posted one. I'm guessing that's due to the fact that there haven't been any hot deals on hard drives lately, but that's beside the point. Nice work man, keep them coming, regardless of what others have to say.

It doesnt look like the rebate will be good if you buy it at computerhq. I checked all of the other "authorized dealers" and the best price with shipping came up to be outpost.
