I recently put this fan a spare bedroom. Good for the price.

No wobbles or squeeks so far. Not bad!

Man, this would be perfect for my kid's room (they only have the light switch that activates the top plug of ONE of the plug outlets) and I know I'd probably have to convert that to a 3-way setup, cut the opening int he wall bigger for a double-switch, get in the attic & put in those mounting brackets for studs not already braced for ceiling fans, etc....etc....& I'm not big on electrical.

Suck for me!

Doable, did this for 3 bedrooms and just made the outlets wired hot and not switched. There is only one switch for the fan which powers both the light and fan which isn't ideal but it works.

Can someone post item number?

It requires flash, you have to input your zip code (try 10010 to pretend you live in NYC), then you have to click the image of the ad circular, then click the picture of the ceiling fan in the ad.

I didnt even know ceiling fans were as cheap as $20.
They tend to have low-powered electric motors and rely only on the blades to balance the fan. When you get to nicer fans, they get more complicated with ballbearings, remote controls, better balance design etc.

You could get the electrician (or somebody who knows what he's doing with any necessary permits) to just make the wall switch control the fan instead of the current switched outlet. You can also get a single gang ceiling fan / light switch so you don't need enlarge the current switch opening. I got one several years ago and it was $30, 2x the price of the fan (which not to thread crap but UGLY), might be cheaper to just get the double gang installed ha, but you also can make do with your current switch, just get the electrician to run the cable with an extra conductor (e.g. 14/3 romex or whatever the code requires now) so you're good to when you want to hook up and control the fan separately.

But definitely install a ceiling fan rated outlet box / mounting bracket unless you want the fan to eventually shake free and crash on somebody's head. They make some that don't require attic access, but if you need to run wire, then you'll need to get up there anyway.

yea, this kinda thing isn't the hottest because of the install costs. once you factor that in its quite expensive. might as well get a decent fan while you are at it. and well self install, esp wiring you might need to get it inspected or something else your home insurance might be affected.

yeah you are kind of screwed because you have a switch controlled outlet. if you had a ceiling light controlled by the switch it would be pretty simple, just turn off the power, remove old fixture, install a fan rated electrical box and install fan. although the fan rated electrical box might run $7-$15. Still beats having a noisy box fan.

I was just at Lowes and while I still think it is kind of ugly, it wasn't as ugly as I first thought.

CHEESEY-CHREESEY [ as we want to say in the C of E ]

if you don't do something , you're not going to get " something "

your wife will never be in the mood

box fans + spray bottles , ceiling fan , window air-box ,

Central Air ( $5,000-$20,000 )

===> get the ceiling fan + a candle with a glass chimney ,

rum punch , a Jane Austin DVD ( crosses his fingers )

yeah.. there was some change in the laws last year and all ceiling fans have a candelabra fixture now..... it does suck I have put in a couple of these type of fan/light setups (cheapies) and for the the biggest weakness was the light it put out.. usually they are rated for 60 watt max.

The side of the box and manual says that it takes a candelabra bulb. I have one in there and working, but it worked its way loose once. Are a candelabra and E17 close enough where a bulb from one would fit into the other and still work?

I have purchased 4 of these on two ocations with the lowes 10 off 25 coupons. I replaced the ceramic small socket with a standard size socket. These are available in the electrical section for about $2. Easy job. I use the 13W CFLs in the socket.
