Just got back from the Buford GA walmart, and they had all big screen TVs on clearance.
most were floor models, but they had the ILO plasmas marked down to $1100
pretty sweet deal even if the brand is ???

not sure if this is at any other walmarts...but good luck looking!

The Ilo has been about $1400 at my local WM for some time. If it's down to $1100 now I might have to bite.

Given the somewhat limited lifespan of Plasma TVs (compared to LCD, CRT) I would NEVER purchase a display model. However, if they have one NIB that is HOT!

all of the TVs on clearance say "floor model only" on the tag - EXCEPT the plasma....there were 2 models, the more expensive one said floor model only, whereas the $1100 one did not...so may be nib, but as always, YMMV

I read recently that most if not all the issues with longevity in a plasma have been taken care of with up to a lifespan of 10 years.. anyone here think plasma will still be the big thing then? with 15K lines of resolution being tested in japan hehe. I should think plasma that gave me 5 years at this point would be a reasonable purchase.

Unless it's a 24 hour walmart I'm not sure they've leave tvs on all the time.

This is a YMMV, Not all Walmarts carry the Plasma tv's just yet.. I know the models being carried switched a few months ago and the displays went on sale depending on location. I think the price of the 42" plasmas new is now $1294 (Maybe $100 less..)

While longevity concerns with plasma TVs used under appropriate conditions in homes are a little obsolete nowadays, I do feel it is something to seriously consider when buying a display model at a store such as Wal-Mart. One can imagine that they run their displays with the brightness jacked all the way up, which is not a good thing for the longevity issue. And then you have to be concerned about possible burn-in if they had this over-bright TV displaying, for example, a "NO INPUT" message for an extended period of time. Perhaps I'd be less hesitant if it were a display unit at a store such as Tweeter. But I do feel people should seriously consider whether the price savings are worth whatever abuse a display model would have suffered during its time at Wal-Mart...

Round here, Wal-Mart don't jack up the brightness on their display models. None of the local stores even take the time to make any adjustments to the default settings. Went to 2 stores yesterday looking at their $550 and $650 CRT HD TV's and the pictures were very crappy on all display models of everything from portables up through the largest screen plasma's they had on display.

The manufacturers all jack up the settings right at the factory- so that no matter what ones end up on display, they'll look better in the harsh environment of a store. That's why you always need (and want) to calibrate it correctly when you get home. I've worked for several retailers, and never knew one of them to take the time to make any adjustments to their display sets.

My Walmart in Sterling Heights doesn't sell any plasma tv's.

edit: They didn't even have any of the big screens on clearance, either.

I'd love a Wal Mart in NYC so all the morons paying $150 for a pink shirt in Nordstrom's would see the same one for $4.99 in Wal Mart

"would see the same one for $4.99 in Wal Mart"
a lot of walmart stuff still is junk even if it looks the same -- the shoestrings that came with these tommy hilfigers lasted three years, bought a pair at walmart -- blooey in 6 months
man, those coleman's were good though, but they discontinued them
their video cards are even cut down?

"anyone confirm yet?"
the only walmart deal i ever saw nationwide was the 128mb sd cards
most wm deals have been like the $67 philips dvdrw deal
but can confirm that walmart has been doing clearance for a while

I was at Walmart last night and they had a ton of clearance merchandise from their electronics dept. I didn't think to check the TVs, but I did see quite a few items marked down about 30%.

I'm one of those who wouldn't buy a plasma display just yet. They're still too expensive for technology that hasn't been tested for the long run. I still believe in solid state electronics rather than the crap that's coming from Japan these days.

I just got back from Walley and saw a ton of large TVs (plasma, CRT, LCD) on clearance in the back in the middle of the bakery... very strange place to move the clearanced TVs. However, I saw the 42" Ilo plasma for $1200 (not $1100). There were however some other brands of plasma displays that were not Ilo that had similiar mark downs (don't remember particulars), but all looked to be open floor models (no NIBs that I could see).
