Didn't see this posted yet, Dell Home has the Panasonic TH-42PWD6UY 42" plasma tv for $2696 with free shipping and no tax in most states. Pretty hot if you ask me. Could be even better if there are any coupons floating around.

This is probably the best set your money could buy right now. The picture quality is amazing. My wife and I have planned on getting this set for christmas, but may have to bite on this price from Dell.

For standard resolutions, this set is better than the high definition version because of the lack of need for conversion. Also, most reviews say that the high definition pictures barely look better on the hd version of this screen. This is one of the best regarded Extended Def displays out there & the folks on the AVS forum worship it. It has one of the best price/performance ratios in a plasma. The high def version of this is about $1500 more, so you need to ask yourself how important is that extra resolution in a 42" display.

Infact, supplies of this model have been scarce lately. I only wish I were ready to pull the trigger on this one.

Well, if Gateway wants money from the folks at this board they are gonna have to have more price mistakes and coupons that stack when they aren't supposed to, otherwise, no one's gonna want to pay them a visit

the reason gateway has the #1 selling model is because it is cheap, and a lot of consumers look at price only. the dell plasma is a much better unit, both quality and feature-wise.

Gateway has better service than Panasonic?

I'd tend to lean towards the Panasonic if i was getting a plasma. But I think plasmas are a waste of money.

Uh $2696??? I think that buys the top of the line Mitsu 65" which was rated buy AVS as the best television money can buy....... Are you that cramped for space that only a plasma will do? My advice, buy a bigger place, it's a much better investment.

Man, I wish they had a 42" widescreen HDTV CRT TV. I don't care if it's 500 lbs. I'd go for CRT over plasma or projection anytime of the day. Best possible picture quality right now is probably on a CRT.

because it is hdtv compatible, which means it will display a hdtv signal. read some reviews before knocking it, because HDTV on a plasma will rival some of the best RPTV's out there. trust me, go out and watch one with a HDTV signal first (preferably the panny, which is regarded as the best EDTV plasma out there).

and since you want to start nitpicking, might i bring up the fact that even so called "HDTV" displays can't even display a true HDTV signal? 9" CRT guns are required to fully resolve a 1080i signal, and there aren't many TV's out there with them, more common are 7" guns.
