so what's the consensus here - are we getting the power supply we thought we were getting ??

i'm one of the early orderers who got in at $39

BTW - hotmail users the letter about it being turbolink may be in your junk mail folder, that's where mine was

MaDHaVoK - what exactly do those numubers mean & how significant are the differences ??

RAINGUY:
According to the email I recieved the power supply you will recieve will NOT be the one in this review linked below..
REVIEW

Here are the specs on the Power Supply in the review.... the CWT-420ATX
+3.3V:28A, +5V:40A, +12V:18A, -12V:1.0A, -5V:1.0A, +5SB:3.0A

Here are the specs they emailed me on the power supply we will be recieving.
+3.3V:28A, +5V:40A, +12V:18A, -12V:0.5A, -5V:0.5A, +5SB:2.0A
**These specs don't match the specs for the CWT-420ATX! so how can it be the CWT-420ATX???**

Channel Well's website don't even jive with the email they sent..
Model CWT-420ATX has the same specs as the review not what they emailed me.. look.
Link

Now I am looking at some of the specs of other AMD approved power supplys and I can't find anything as low as this.... -12V:0.5A, -5V:0.5A, +5SB:2.0A

I'd be careful with this.. current is noo laughing matter.

Well I got a confirmation letter and a UPS tracking number. I never got the letter from them asking if I want to back out of the purchase. I think you guys might be worrying to much about the different specs from one site to another. From what I have found at different sites these do vary from one to another. I believe that if the power supply has the cwt 420 label then it should be okay. It seems that many companies including Sparkle are buying then from Channel Well and putting their name on them. If you notice in your searches almost all the name brands that use this power supply have the CWT 420 in their description. What is odd is I am able to find a Turbolink 320W powersupply described as Model# CWT-320ATX-12V but not a 420W version. Perhaps it is a new model.

Ok, what's the deal here? I just got the email too. Obviously these specs are not what we expected.

I would add that I saved the page when you click "Buy 1," and when I ordered at $39, the description said "CHANNEL WELL 420W ATX POWER SUPPLY w/ DUAL FAN." AFTER they changed it to $44, they added the "(TURBOLINK OEM)" to the description. Does this mean they sold out of the original item they were selling?

Did anyone who ordered not get the email quoted above? Meaning, did some people get a different PS before they switched it?

I'm putting this in a new system and I was ok with this, if it was really the "Rebranded Antec" as stated in the review link. Now it sounds very iffy. The few links I can find on Google Groups are out of date, but some don't have good things to say about their "cheap Turbolink" power supplies.

To confuse things more, scroll down on this page to see the CWT 420 PS (branded "Sunny Technologies").
CWT 420 Sunny Technologies.

I just got that same bullsh*t e-mail. If this is really a different power supply then this is about as blatant a bait-and-switch tactic as you can get. I am not worried yet, though...if Channel Well power supplies are good enough for Antec & Sparkle, then they can clearly do high quality work. I doubt we will be disappointed.

<< I am not worried yet, though...if Channel Well power supplies are good enough for Antec & Sparkle, then they can clearly do high quality work. I doubt we will be disappointed. >>

Well, I'm worried by the fact that the label on the Turbolink has completely different specs than those in the review. Also, it is very easy for the same OEM to make higher quality power supplies for one company, then make lower end, lower spec. units for another.

The thing that is most troublesome, is the fact that openlinx felt it had to send out these emails. Why? Three possibilities: 1) To cover their ass when this thing isn't what we expect (most likely); 2) Because they sold out of the other Channel Well units (which were not labelled "Turbolink" when I ordered, as I posted above); or 3) Because they made a pricing error and want us to "trick" us into cancelling the orders...

I vote for #1, anyone else care to weigh in?

Does anyone else find it ironic that a company named after the OS based on free and open distribution should jack up prices like that?

Yeah, I know, we all have to make a living.

I don't have first-hand experience with the Antec 420W power supply, however, I have reviewed GlobalWin's YCC-8870 which comes with the Channel Well CWT-420 (Channel-Well Technology 420W Power Supply) unit installed. As far as today's standards go, this power supply really pushes the envelope, complete with the aforementioned 245W of power on the 3.3v and 5v rails. This is more than 50W higher than what AMD recommends for even Athlon XP 2000+ systems. Bottom line: this power supply is incredible in and of itself, and to top it all off, it comes with the quality construction and name of Channel Well/Sinotech AND it pushes more power out than just about every other 'name brand' power supply available. For $49, $39, $44, or whatever price (under $50) it is, it's a steal. Check out VN Roundup's Power Supply Selection article, and notice this power supply (near the very top)

Edit: As far as the Antec/Sparkle OEM note is concerned, sure, you've quoted that one review, however, honestly, I think the information may be incorrect. Usually when you have several companies piggy-backing on power supplies from another manufacturer, they don't tend to change the naming scheme much/at all. As such, it is obvious that AOpen, and Sparkle, among other smaller companies use power supplies manufactured by Fortron/Source (FSP Group), hence the 'FSP' designation for all models. On the same note, it is obvious that American Media Systems, and Sinotech, among other smaller companies use power supplies originally MANUFACTURED by Channel Well. I am pretty confident that Channel Well is the original manufacturer, not just a rebadger of Antec power supply equipment. But again, I reiterate, if my stance is true, that this power supply (CWT-420) is still a very high quality one indeed. You should not worry about its quality/performance, however, the seller's authenticity is a whole different question.

Peace

I vote for 1 , 2 and 3. I think they ran out of the original and are now trying to trick people into not ordering, and at the same time bracing people who get the second model that it's going to be a POS.

AtifofVNRoundup:

This is what the email said...

"This email is to let you know that Channel Well power supply we are selling is

It says your are getting a power supply with the Turbolink label with model number CWT-420ATX...
They don't say your getting the Channel Well power supply with model number CWT-420ATX!!!

Furthermore the specs they sent are NOT the specs of the Channel Well CWT-420ATX!!!!
Meaning your not getting the same power supply in all these reviews!!

Stop showing people reviews for a power supply they are not gonna get!! it is misleading!!!!!!!

Well, if they're open today, they should be open in a few minutes. (909) 598-5053

I'm intending this for a new overclocking box, so I don't want any second rate PS spiking (or whatever) and frying my components.

Has anyone even heard of Turbolink before??? I ran a search and came up with nothing but a 320W model with one fan....nowhere close to 420W w/ dual fans.

Is there anyone who ordered earlier in the week, and might have their power supply by early next week? It would be nice to have visual confirmation of exactly what this thing is.

well... how about those people that ordered this early in the week. did they get the email as well?
if so... i suppose we can wait and see what it really is.. like exp said.
but if they didn't get the email... there's a possibility that it's a two different model that they are selling.
like someone else mentioned earlier.

hmm... if it is channel well 420w .... it's a hot deal.
gosh... i hate this suspense.

Well, they're not answering the phone (as of 9:20PST). I'll try back later, but they may be closed on the weekend. I guess I'll wait until Tuesday to find out what's up, unless a better deal comes up over the weekend...

Actually, if they did get the e-mail then chances are they will not get any shipment next week. At least, not unless they replied to it and OKed it (remember the e-mail states that orders are being held). Of course there is the possibility that Openlinx will ship anyway, since they don't seem to have a clue what they are doing.
