for the money...
it seems like my enhance 350w is a good buy.
newegg's got them for 35+10s/h=$45

it's got 220w combined at 3.3+5
i know that's sufficient for one athlon o/cing.
but for dual cpu... i'm not sure what the necessary specs are.

i already have a 350watter.
i was going to replace my deer 300 w with this channelwell 420w. but it seems like i am going to settle for enhance 300w. that one also has 220w at 3+5.

I'm probably just going for the Antec PP412X, if this doesn't work out. Or maybe even just the PP352X...

FreakyGuy, where's the UPS man?

Well, Has anyone recvd theres yet? I soooo hope that you guys get the good one. Please let us know after you compare the specs against the Antec one and check if it has the internal pots for adjusting voltages.
Cant wait to hear how it pans out.

This is not the same as the Antec. No adjustable pots and clearly this thing is much lighter and it does have dual fans. It does say Turbolink on it. The insides don't look like the Antec. It does look like it uses some of the same parts and that white substance to stabilize the parts. The heatsinks are rather small.

It has 2 clear fans with a gold grill on the bottom fan.

I got sucked in also. When I ordered it the website never said Turbolink and there were no specs listed. It just said Channel Well CWT-420.

I will install it in my system and check the voltages.

Lesson learned.

Major bummer. Thanks for letting us know FreakyGuy. Antec, here I come (after I cancel my openlinx order).

Maybe change the thread title to "DEAD: 400W PS is a real PoS"

I called Openlinx and was told I could refuse shipment and be reimbursed. He also said he made a mistake by not putting on his site at first that it is a Channel Well made specifically for Turbolink. He gave me the number for ASPIRE INT'L CORP which uses the Turbolink brand name. There website is Link
I talked to a girl named Elise and she said these are made for them by Channel Well but the reason they are sold cheaper is because under the Turbolink name they are not AMD approved. She said they have just in the last couple of months began selling these in retail boxes. If you check on their website you will see that they use these power supplies in a "Antec 1040 clone case". According to her they have a one year warranty.
However I will probably go ahead and refuse shipment based on the observations by FreakyGuy. If it is not high quality, I do not want it in my system.

Ah well, you win some you lose some. Who knows, this power supply still could end up being a good deal for some (voltages seem pretty solid)? Personally, I will throw in the towel tomorrow unless something new comes up.

As far as alternatives to this go, I'll probably pass up the Enhance 350W (a good deal for 220W TCO) in favor of the Antec pp352X. Those dual fans will help out my poorly ventilated Enlight 7237.

ok guys whats the deal? I still dont think 39 dollars is a bad deal for a 420 watt PSU, I need a better PSU should I cancel my order or just wait and se how it works? I dont paln on over clocking and right now I have a POS deer power supply that dont even have cooling vents on it and its sitting right above my proc and cooking it...I think this one with dual fans will be better than what I have right??!

thanks in advance

Yes, I would say that this is definitely better than Deer. At the very least you will get better ventilation, which increases the reliability of all your other components. OTOH, if you are not going to overclock then 420W is excessive and you may be better off with the Antec pp352x (or Enermax). It has dual fans and a proven track record of reliability, whereas this Channel Well power supply is still a question mark (but could be quality since CW makes power supplies for Antec).

It's probably fine if you're not overclocking. I mean, what kind of power supplies do you think Dell (or whatever PC maker) puts in their boxes? I'm just guessing they don't go for top of the line, they just put normal ones in there. I have a couple super-generic power supplies in older machines that I run pretty much 24/7 (for years) and they're still working great.

It's just that I am building a new 1.6a system and am hoping to do some extreme-overclocking. I'll be paying extra for a nice motherboard and higher rated ram, so I don't want to worry about skimping on a PS. I was hoping this was basically an Antec, or even the real Channel Well, but it's not.

OK now Im even more confused when I did a search on google cwt-420 I came across a few european sites that were selling the same model number but named SinoTech, excuse the translation I translated this review from Alta Vita, and from what it makes out there saying it only has one fan:

"With the CWT-420 it concerns a SinoTech power pack modified by Blacknoise. Instead of the usual standard exhaust a super+quiet Noiseblocker S2 is used, that the noise level, if one can speak with power packs of it, keeps actually extremely small. However a second exhaust would be high-grade desirable for the improvement of the cooling performance. But also which the performance concerned white the Blacknoise power pack to impress, those specified 420W become clearly exceeded, even if the performance of the Enermax analysed more highly around 10W cannot be achieved approximately. The additional +12V and AUX Motherboardstecker provide for full Pentium 4 compatibility, otherwise the CWT offers 6 peripheral device and 2 floppy plugs. The price of over 1700ats makes the Blacknoise however just as expensive as good selection. "

Anyone?

Mine is coming tomorrow. In my opinion it clearly out-does the Antec 300 watt supply I just fried. And even if it has smaller heatsinks than the Antec, it does have two fans which should make up for keeping the powersupply cooler.

I'm going to keep mine.

I'm running a Shuttle AK31A with a T-Bird 1 Ghz AXIA at 1.533 Ghz 1.75v

Im with you todays....I just emailed openlinx and they emailed me back within a half hour..I think those guys are really getting pi**ed at us lol. Anyway I asked them the following:

Hello,

Had a few quick questions. Is this Power Supply is it still a Channel Well Power Supply?Iif yes why is it labeled turbolink OEM? Is it still the same specs and quality of the Channel Well power supply? Or is this OEM a cheaper quality and lowered spec? Also I see on my searches that this somtimes cross references with Antec power supplys, do you know if this is the same as an Antec? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated....

they replied:
It is made by Channel Well for Turbolink and it has Turbolink name on the label with CWT-420 model number. For more tech. spec contact Turbolink. (626-912-1266)

So from what I can see it appears ot be a decent PSU, Im going to keep mine, and throw this deer sh*t in the woods were it belongs, who would name a power supply "Deer"? Well hope for the best

It seems that Channel Well builds power supplies for quite a few customers as well as selling under their own name. Newegg sells several of the Cheiftech cases with the CWT-420 (proper Channel Well brand with the good specs). Check the photos and the label clearly shows the specs. Good price also. I also found another computer site selling cases with the CWT-420 installed - only $59 for case w/ps . Very tempting.

I guess the question is, how many different versions of this power supply are out in the market? If that $59 case has the true Channel Well ps (same as Antec/Sparkle) it would be a nice deal.

EDIT: Link dumped. Sorry.

it still shows good volt numbers... my enermax only gets 10.2 on the +12v line and 5.05 on the +5v and i paid 80 bucks for it. very sad really

i think i'm going to reply back and accept it.

I am keeping mine as well. Should be here on friday. It's obvious Channelwell makes quality power supplies and the specs are actually pretty good. They beat my antec 300w by a good margin.

mine shipped yesterday \O/ I think these are AMD approved just not under this OEM label, if you look at AMD's siteyou will see the German OEM Sinotech CWT- 420ATX 420 245 ATX listed as AMD approved, how odd looks like the same specs as I stated befor I think this still an awesome deal.

I have a Uneac power supply that has the same part number as another PS on the AMD approved list and it actually came with an AMD approved PS sticker so maybe this one is fine and might even come with the sticker as it is made by the same manufacturer*fingers crossed*. Mine also shipped yesterday.
